On the bbc homepage with a story about him being given a squad number. Great marketing from the club, they’ll definitely get some more shirt sales out of it.

Just been on Radio 2 - it's great being in the limelight again.

I really don't get this daft negativity about the shirt - it's a bit of fun along with a little thank you to our sponsor!

It's also a great way to promote our marketing side.

I got a mountain of downvotes for giving my opinion on it.
If it was any other club I feel we'd look at it as a bit cringey.
That being said now that some time has passed the club will make plenty of money from this.
So I can see the positives.

Just on 6 music news too.

I can see why some people feel a little cringey about it, though I don't really care, but either way I'd take all and any of the Ed Sheeran stuff over being sponsored by AN Other tawdry online betting company.

I guess, for me at least, I enjoyed seeing us talked about for our actual football, for being in the top division, for beating one of the top teams.

Now the only way we can get noticed is via a pop star.

I understand the pension fund needs to make money and it has a very American feel about it so shouldn't be too surprised.

Well said.

Online betting sponsorship is the pinnacle of tinpot tawdriness. The Sheeran sponsorship by comparison is fun, harmless and ultimately genuine.

The two aren’t mutually exclusive though are they? Any publicity is good publicity and all that. And the pension fund aren’t going to be making money off of something like this, it’s about using every possible avenue to increase commercial income so that we’ve got more money to spend on wages etc. so don’t see how it can possibly be seen as a bad thing. I can’t believe there’s any club out there who wouldn’t try and take full advantage of having a global superstar as both a fan and a sponsor.

Maybe it would have been 10 years ago - but this is pop culture now, and a new evolution. Just look at our social media accounts and the way they announce, vs how we used to consume announcements 20 years ago.

If we're being talked about on a global scale, then its a big win i'd say.

To be known for our football we need to buy good players which requires money.

Marketing ploys like this is excellent for a league 1 side.

Anyway. Season starts today. Wahooooooooo
