Mallorca/Menorca Advice 10:01 - Aug 10 with 1466 viewsKTBlue

I seem to remember there are a couple of people on here who know a fair bit about these. Me and the Mrs are planning on going to maybe one of these in mid september. Ideally looking for a non resorty place, nice bars and restaurants, decent beach. Any tips would be very much appreciated cheers

Cala"n Bosch Menorca. Has got everything you want without the hustle and bustle. A beautiful marina with bars and restaurants ( not burger and chips and EastEnders shown here establishments )and a short bus ride from the old capital of Ciutadella. Perfect place to relax.

Yes . It really has everything you've just asked for. I've been twice. The restaurants are quality. The old capital is a brilliant day out too. Approximately an hour from the airport.

I have been to Son Bou Menorca several times, the north of the island is now very commercial, Cala en forcat, Son Bou has a lovely sandy beach and you have to go out a long way before it gets deep, brilliant for children. Menorca was the first holiday destination we returned to we enjoyed it so much, the climate is very warm but not too powerful sun. I would recommend Son Valentine hotel or self catering apartments, but there is a wide choice of excellent accommodation options available depending on budget.

I would add that it is well worth going on the local bus service to see around the island or hire a car for a few days, Fornels is worth a visit and a trip to the capital Mahon.

Puerto Pollenca in Mallorca is a great little place. Got that nice calm not too busy feel about it and pine walk is very well thought of around there as well.

Another nice place is cala'dor but might be a bit on the too resorty side.

Port d'Andratx is a lovely little town with loads of great bars and restaurants and about half another from the airport.

You can hire boats from here which is always good fun. There is no beach but there are a few not to far away, Cala Fonnell for one and a particular favourite of mine, Platja de Sant Elm. You can get here on a short bus or taxi ride and it has more bars and eateries to indulge in. You can also get there by boat from Andratx

Another vote for Son Bou, great beach, fairly quiet from what I can recall.

I prefer Majorca myself but have started investigating property prices across both islands as will be cashing in 25% of the pension just as soon as I am able and start looking in earnest.

Agreed. We stayed on waterside residence on Pine Walk, Puerto Pollenta a couple of years ago. Nice swimming, nice walk and we hired bicycles to look around. We even ventured up the hills a bit. Some lovely little "hidden" bars and cafes not too far out of town, and the ones withinn walking distance were not disappointing.
We even booked to return last year, (which is something I never do!) but Covid put paid to that idea.
I have to say that I also found a bar showing Sunday afternoon PL football, but I felt guilty sitting in the cool air-conditioned surroundings sipping a cold beer, so i only went there two or three times!

Add Soller to the list, I stayed in Soller a few years back and that’s lovely. Short walk or train to Port de Soller or walks into the hills. Port de Soller was nice too as proximity to the beach was your preference.
