Some of you need to get a grip. 07:56 - Aug 11 with 13587 views | Chondzoresk | Flouncing is unreal. These players and team in general will take a while to get going. Yes, last night was frustrating. However, I am sure things will get better soon. Hang on in there. This is a marathon not a sprint. Have a great day and let's have positive vibes.

Some of you need to get a grip. on 08:49 - Aug 11 by Herbivore | Pointing out we've had two poor results is just factually accurate. As is pointing out that results under Cook last season weren't very good. If people are classing that as flouncing then Lord help us. |
Yeah, but they aren't though.

Cook's results have been awful since he's been in charge, i'm not sure there's any other metric on what he's done to say he hasn't been anything but useless, to be honest. Thankfully he's proven himself elsewhere so still optimistic.

Performances this season have been promising but disappointing (1 meaningful game). That doesn't mean he's been "useless" ffs.

Some of you need to get a grip. on 08:52 - Aug 11 by DanTheMan | Agreed, but that's not what Chico, or some others, have done. They're just miffed at two crap results. I'm slightly surprised that positivity has turned into being happy at not winning games. I'd hope nobody is happy with drawing at home to Morecambe and losing at home to Newport County. I'd certainly expect Cook not to be happy with it. |
Nobody's happy with it. But some of us appreciate it's too soon to get too upset by it either. Relax. Everything will be fine.

Has he really been useless, I don't think so. So many naive posts and opinions on Cook from some. 2 games with this squad, 2 bloody games. Problem is you have a personal dislike for Cook for things he has done which 99% of posters will be aware about, so have to take what you say on things with a pinch of salt.

Some of you need to get a grip. on 08:57 - Aug 11 by Herbivore | The board is an excellent microcosm of society right now. Everything has to be a binary. Being pro-Cook and pro the new era seems to entail absolute blind faith and refusing to acknowledge any mistakes or disappointments. Anything else is considered to be flouncing or anti-Cook sentiment. It's seemingly not possible to be excited by the project, hopeful it will succeed, but disappointed that we've started with two poor results. You either have to go all in or you're anti-Cook it seems. [Post edited 11 Aug 2021 9:01]

I am relaxed, but it is somewhat annoying to be told you're flouncing because you're disappointed by two poor results. But seeing as apparently you have to basically be ready to blow your load over the two results I'll just leave it there.

Some of you need to get a grip. on 08:44 - Aug 11 by DanTheMan | How is that flouncing? We had a terrible end to the last season and we've started off with two poor results. I'm not saying we should be sacking Cook as that is obviously ridiculous but saying the results have been poor isn't flouncing. |
The results have been poor and if the performances were too I would be more concerned that I am at the moment. As it is I can see what Cook is trying to do and without mistakes at the back coupled with being slightly toothless up front we would have two victories on the board. The hope is we can strengthen the backline with an experienced centre back coming in and the front players can get and find momentum; there’s certainly no reason why this shouldn’t happen. It’s worth bearing in mind that as late as February, Blackpool were nine points off sixth and had just been turned over by a team going nowhere, namely ourselves. This is off the back of a start where their supporters were panicking because there was no sign of a clear tactical approach or the players gelling. Yes, the two results are disappointing but it’s very early days, our squad is not fully in place and there are already signs of a clear tactical approach. I’m one of the biggest knee jerk reactors on her but in truth we just need to take a step back and take a deep breath rather than pushing the panic button.

Some of you need to get a grip. on 09:18 - Aug 11 by portmanking | Do you not think people are talking up the downs because there is a sense of disbelief at the short-termism of a cross-section of fans? I certainly can't believe what I'm seeing/reading at times. Talk of giving Cook "a month" to sort things out. The idea that this is going to come together in 4 weeks and we're going to steamroller teams is for the birds. It's utter folly. We built sustainable success with Burley over 5 YEARS. We finally have owners that want to build more sustainable success, with prudent acquisitions and investment in infrastructure, yet two games in we're already hearing some fans wanting to rip it all up and start all over! Yes, getting promoted this year is the primary target. But IMO to heap pressure by saying things like "it's this year or bust" is just unnecessary. Let the team build partnerships and let's see where we go. |

He's been in charge for 18 games and we've won 4 of them - that is terrible whatever the reasoning put in place. People are talking up a 1-0 defeat against a League 2 side as though we've gone toe to toe with a big boy. I'm sure results will improve, despite what some posters think I believe Cook will be a roaring success here and like what he is trying to do - but there is no point pretending what has happened so far hasn't happened.

Some of you need to get a grip. on 09:23 - Aug 11 by Herbivore | The minnows made as many changes as us though, that's the point. Morecambe handed out pretty much as many debuts as we did, Newport handed out even more. Gelling becomes less of a mitigating factor when playing other sides who are in the same boat. We should have had more than enough about us to win these first two games. |
Jesus wept. By all accounts we battered them last night but lost 1-0. This happens to the best of teams.

Can we not talk about a team like Blackpool who put themselves in an awful situation which would 99 times out of 100 see them nowhere near the play offs. Look across the leagues and see where play off teams are after 10-15 games on average as that is where we need to be at a minimum - we need to be gunning for the top 2.

Easy as in we were at home against the favourites for relegation who have also had high squad churn, and then at home against League 2 opposition playing their youth team. [Post edited 11 Aug 2021 14:28]

Yes, but there seems a desperate desire to paint anyone who thought the 2 results were a bit rubbish and that the performances are nothing like they are being hyped up to be as anti-Cook, Ashron, GameChanger when it really isn't the case. Last nights performance was ok, but we were able to stay on top of the game because we didn't score - had it gone back to 1-1 with Newport have stuck in their low block with little forward ambition? Doubtful. We need to stop conceding early goals, start getting ahead in games and then see how the performances look - it's easy to knock the ball around when the other team are happy with a draw, and delighted with a win and they are ahead in the game.

Not been on it this season yet purely due to being busy, but have been in most of previous 2 seasons league games & found it absolutely excellent, apart from a couple of idiots who Gav quickly reined in or booted. Literally hundreds of good people in there, good fun & bantz, plenty of mutual support/commiseration when things not going well. Recommended, why not try it out for yourself?

Exactly the reason the deadwood & overrated academy grads had to be moved out - they simply weren't good enough. We have replaced an average squad with a good squad, but it will take longer than 2 games. If by 10/15 games we are still not picking up results, then your negative nelly approach will carry more weight, right now it is just coming across as a comical act of your typical armchair manager, who typically lacks much understanding of the game.

Think your last paragraph is the crux of it. The way Cook wants to play we will be more destructive if teams need to come at us and go toe to toe. When you concede early goals or concede first you make things incredibly difficult for yourself.

Already we are seeing far more positivity going forward, our achilles heel is still at the back, especially CB's. I have a lot of time for Wolfie but he can be so frustrating, clearly a gifted player but his switch off moments can be catstrophic. Hopefully we have the remedy in the new signings. On Cook, his record hasn't been great but he did walk into a car crash and he needs time to gel this new team. Fact of the matter is, he is under immense pressure, so he needs to find a way and soon, as we already have seen, promotion is the only show in town for these new owners regardless of what they say, if Cook isn't cutting the mustard they won't hesitate to get rid.

Only Joe quite clearly has a much better understanding than you - and Joe hasn't even been negative. He's just dealt with facts, that some are struggling with because for some reason they instantly stuck Cook up on a pedestal before he'd done anything (and is still yet to do anything of note)

How about Oxford? They were 21st after 15 matches last season. Admittedly most sides who go up start well and retain momentum but that’s after 10-15 games, not won. And after 15 games last season we were second; we all know how that turned out. I think there will be a lot more tension and anxiety should we be even mid table by December but there’s a lot of football to be played before then. As has been said, disappointing results but a long way to go.

Yep, and whilst the last paragraph is no doubt true - it's the last thing we need/want because this squad has been built in Cook's image with type of player. 2 away games this week, we need to start winning - time waits for no man and it won't wait for us to get going. Wins breed wins, and will be tough on Saturday at Burton, but it has to happen.
