50p says chrismakin wouldn't have backed down half as quick if it was. It's not exactly a crazy question to ask. What should we be asking Cook? "Is it true that tomorrow we'll be trying to win the game by scoring goals?"

Can you comment on how much you like tea? Are you keen on seagulls? At what speed does the pitch grass grow? Is it the right shade of green? Brie or Camembert?

People ask why some Managers hate press conferences on 11:49 - Aug 13 by PhilTWTD | I asked that. Is it not a fair question in the context of the character of last year's team having been so widely questioned? Of the feeling having been that a goal went in and then that was that? I couldn't see last year's team having come from behind in a game twice to draw, could you? |
Quite simply, no. They wouldn’t have. Even if they’d had the fitness, which they didn’t have, everything else was missing. Sometimes you lose because it just doesn’t happen - numerous attempts, dominate the game, not your day. I remember a game in the mid 70s on Boxing Day against Luton. They were rubbish and we’d murdered them at Kenilworth Road start of the season. They were due to be relegated, we had a smashing side that should have won the cup that year. We lost 1-0. It just wasn’t to be. The trick is not to have that happen every week! If you make chances, play front foot football as we did in the mid 70s, it won’t too often. Edit: And yes, I’m trying to change the subject. [Post edited 13 Aug 2021 14:31]

Well no, as whilst I don't agree with the question, I can still respect a persons career. My OP was about the question itself not who, why or how it was presented

I still fail to see what was wrong with Phil's question? Seems like a perfectly plausible, valid question.

You have a very different sense of logic to most people. How do you feel when your threads are criticised as stupid? Does it make you feel that people are calling you stupid or do you think, "that's OK, they think what I said was stupid and it probably was but they clearly think I am wise and intelligent"? Maybe pausing before you post and choosing not to defend everything you have said whether it was wise or not would be good. It has been suggested you ought to apologise to Phil. You have decided you were right and don't need to. I would suggest you stop there rather than keep doubling down on the position even further. If you are simply repeating what you have already said because someone else has made comment on it, it probably does not need repeating. EDIT: By the way, you were criticising Phil because your OP states that his question specifically is an obvious reason why Cook would hate press conferences. Something which you have completely projected too as I see no evidence that Cook actually took any offence to it either (unless I am missing something). [Post edited 13 Aug 2021 14:53]

Because imo it serves no purpose other than bringing up a past that the club has tried very often to get the media to move away from and to concentrate on the now and the future. I get what Phil is saying in one of his reply's to this thread, however we already knew the answer to the question so IMO it was something that needn't be asked.

It just seems to me that Chris is bored and the only ITFC related thing today is Cook's presser, so he thought he would go for that. I'm always up for decent ITFC Chatter, but this just seems like posting nonsense for nonsense sake.

If journalists only asked questions that we don't know the answer to, press conferences would be fairly short. A lot is about gauging the manager's feelings and views from the way they choose to answer as much as anything. How often do interviews start with questions like "were you pleased with that performance?", "did you feel that ... changed the game?" or such like?

Given Cook has seen one of the biggest player turnarounds in the clubs history, do you not think it's an interesting question to ask? I do, but happy to disagree.

So if Lambert and Evans (as the owner) were still here and he and club kept saying ‘don’t talk about the past, it’s only this season that matters’ you’d think that was perfectly acceptable as well? Managers etc shouldn’t be given easy questions on script.

No, the fact we had the biggest player turnarounds makes it even more obvious that PC would feel that 'no last years team wouldn't have drawn the game'

I was interested, so I guess it works for me. We could guess at what Cook would say, we'd probably be right, but that's why we ask questions. What would be a question you'd actually like Phil to ask that maybe wasn't asked in the press conference? A specific question.

Managers don't like dwelling on negatives. If Phil had said last season's team would have beaten Morecambe you'd have a point but he phrased the question as a positive. It's all good. [Post edited 13 Aug 2021 14:56]

You have a very literal take on this. Questions aren't just asked to get a yes/no type answer but to more widely discuss the issue they relate to, in this case the character of the two squads after a performance which may indicate a positive change. The point was more about a positive development rather than looking back.

If I give an example, they'll be a reply on how i'm telling Phil what to do. we've already seen that in this thread, so no real point in me giving an example is there?
