Not sure what to make of it all really 20:52 - Aug 14 with 6399 viewshype313

Part of me is being a pragmatic with our current situation, with all the changes over the summer and players needing time to gel etc.

But on the flip side, these players we have brought in should be good and able enough to beat Morecambe, Newport and Burton with thier abilities.

Cook's honeymoon period is well and truly over and as yet, we haven't seen anything from him in his time here that suggests he is the man to charge us to promotion, regardless of all the caveats, although I still have some confidence that he can be the man to take us up, but that could just be blind faith.

I dunno, I seem to be contradicting myself here, but I'm really not sure where I stand on the current situation.

Maybe I'll come to a better conclusion after ten games, that's my hope anyway.

Don’t win on Tuesday and the atmosphere going to be so edgy vs MK

and this is it. such a large % of our fanbase walk in that stadium waiting for a mistake to jump on, there will be very little in the way of encouragement from the stands. so from the off they've created a weird atmosphere to play infront of.

clearly there is work to still be done, but personally, even as an ITFC fan, i'd hate to play my football at portman road.

The massive change that’s happened in the last few months almost means this is the real start of Cook’s tenure…. But the poor end to last season waters that down.

Ashton, O’Leary and Cook are right in saying we need to be patient, but the poor end to last season has eaten into that patience for some fans.

We also have another couple of weeks of the window remaining l, so the squad will change further, (part of the annoying situation that the season starts before the window ends), and the squad then needs to settle down.

And this is from someone who has thought Cook would be the ideal appointment for us for several years… I was delighted when we got him and would love him to succeed.

Trouble is, I think too many people are getting twitchy far too early.

Ah. The good old “it’s the fans fault” position.

We’ve been undone massively by two excellent starts in prior seasons and built false expectations on those.

We should be afforded some breathing space on a very new squad and new team on the pitch too, not light Morcombe with new players but an established back line or Burton with half their team having had time with their manager understanding their roles.

Undeniably there’s some cracking players on what I’ve seen in two games, Fraser, pen aside looks class, Evans is too drawer and I’m sure would comfortably play a level above. There’s quality all over but it must work as a team, not 11 individuals on the pitch.

Give it a few more weeks….patience is a virtue (yes yes yes…13 years or whatever) let’s not forget the changes behind the scenes too, they’re all learning their positions in the overall picture too, there’s a lot to come together.

Just about the only positive thing to be said about Cooks reign so far is the good home record.

I predict that your position will evolve on this in the next few games if we continue to go badly and you will be flat-our blaming the fans in part for the turgid football and poor results. This is because you think you are a super fan.

The fact is yes, Ipswich is a tough place to play football in front of some very demanding and stroppy fans. It has been like this for many years with only the odd few seasons as exceptions, and it won’t change. Ipswich fans expect their team to entertain and win and if they do, the fans will be right behind them and give excellent support. The flip side is they will be very pass-agg otherwise. This is how it is and this won’t ever change. Players and managers who are sooks about it are in the wrong place.

reckon you've got your wires crossed here little guy

"Ipswich fans expect their team to entertain" we've been a nothing club for 15/20 years, who the fck expects us to entertain? a long shot, or a through ball is about all I hope to see at times

that I did, however, not entirely sure that warrants super fan status, i'll take it though as you seem intent on giving that award out.

maybe one day you'll find your voice and can class yourself a proper fan too.

We have to be on the right side of the 'key' moments in the game as goals change games and we are making it incredibly difficult for ourselves at the moment.

A bloke that scored 9 penalties from 9 last season, missing his first one for us is so Ipswich.

And annoyingly Akins missed a penalty in midweek yet managed to score the one against us.

Portman Road is hardly a bear pit, Texters. I know the fans aren't as loud as you'd like but it's hardly a toxic atmosphere.

I have to say it was awful after Morecambe’s second goal last week though - not toxic in a sense of abusing the players but quiet, tense, edgy... everything it really shouldn’t be on opening day after a complete overhaul. Cook admitted it knocked the stuffing out of him and no doubt it did the same to us as well as the players but we should have bounced back quicker than we did. It was only after the 500th bizarre decision from the ref, this time against Norwood, that the crowd seemed to wake up again.

Have you been to many away games? PR is no different than 90% plus of other grounds in that respect. When the game is flat the fans tend to go flat. There are only really a handful of fan bases that buck that trend and we aren't, and never really have been, one of them.

I guess it felt like we were in the late 90s/early 00s. I think Look East did a decibel measurement at one point and, for a moment, the noise at Portman Road was greater than a jumbo jet taking off. Of course success bred excitement and this was throughout our most consistent run of performances in the last 20 years, rather than the negativity which has been growing over the last decade.

Having been going to PR for a little over 30 years, those few years under Burley were the outlier. We've had odd games where the atmosphere has been really good but not a sustained period. But we're no different than pretty much every other club in that regard.

The fans turn up in numbers, excited and energised by a new beginning and they’re treated to:

1) Three defenders going, “After you, Mr. Stockton, would you like to have a shot at our goal?”
2) “Oi Cole! I bet you can’t beat Woolfy to this pass. Ah, alright, I’ll give you a fighting chance”
3) “Before I take this penalty, I am going to try and psyche the goalkeeper out with a bit of interpretive dance before hitting the ball towards the goal with my little toe.”

That’s even before we get into last season where they didn’t have to play in front of anyone at Portman Road, but threw in the collective towel once a new manager arrived and demanded something from them to try and make the play-offs. “Urgh! Stop expecting things of us!”

My own view is that PC did really poorly last season. I don’t buy into the argument that he had to change the whole team and that the last 14 games should be written off. With his history he should have had us at least challenging for the play-offs; instead, he did worse than Lambert.

The new squad is very good, though, but will need some time to bed in, and PC needs that time to get it working properly. I would genuinely be amazed if we don’t end up top 2.

Whether that means PC is any good, I don’t know. I feel even I could make a decent fist of it this season :-)

The fans should be placing pressure on him. My fear is the excuse making will start — it’ll take a season to turn it round, the club is rotten to the core etc. etc. etc. If we’re still performing in this way after 10 games that’ll be 24 he’ll have had; for me, more than enough to have had some effect, especially considering the support he’s had.

I see lots of the squad was awful last season even though we were in the mix when Lambert left. I see lots of the squad is great and plays an exciting brand of football. Fundamentally it's league 1 and we just need to get out of it.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Too small a sample size to make anything of it either way really. We've had the wrong end of 2 games that could've gone either way. 3 of our likely first XI haven't played a minute for us yet and 3 more have played less than one full game.
