Reading signed him for £7.5m, so fair to say he must have impressed someone at some point

Only club who actively paid a fee for him though, everyone has signed him on a free, should also say a lot about him too

Aluko and Barry could well be, yes.

On the contrary, Aluko wasn't going to get any better offer than us. I assume he's delighted to be here and to be picking up a good League 1 wage. Barry on the other hand yes, especially with Celina jumping ahead of him in the pecking order immediately.

Nobody would have been guaranteed a starting slot.

They all know the score, it's the way a football club " should" function.

Think it was fairly obvious that Penney wasn't coming in as first choice left back, everyone said so at the time.

Expect Fraser and Harper probably still fancy their chances of making the first team.

Barry's a strange one. Maybe because he's so young Villa and he were comfortable with a fringe role?

Hladky, well, he'll know the score that keepers have to be at 100% almost all the time.

I suspect Barry will be back at Villa in January - I hope I am wrong as that will mean he will have staked his claim for enough appearances here but I just can't see where the appearances will come other than the EFL cup.
