In deepest darkest Suffolk for a week dog-sitting 16:35 - Sep 3 with 2222 views | unbelievablue | And fancy taking a few trips on the old bi-cycle (not, on this occasion, a euphemism). Any recommendations for oddities to visit, whether they be pubs, villages, beaches, churches, historical sites etc. etc.? We're talking 20 or so miles north of Ipswich. Sax way.

In deepest darkest Suffolk for a week dog-sitting on 10:16 - Sep 4 by ElephantintheRoom | I'm impressed the dog can ride a bike. Depends where you are near I guess - if near Leistom there is a nice circuit to take in Aldeburgh, Thorpeness - and indeed Sizewall. If your're venturing further afield you can take your bike across the river from Southwold to Walberswick - but dont do that at weekends as the Londoners are 'at their cottages' then - and the pubs become unbearable. There's a nice route around Benhall that takes you to Framligham - and the castle on the hill in one direction - and yoxford in the other direction - with the chance to buy some overpriced bacon or spanish chocolate at Emmett's in Peasenhall. For a trip with a difference you could cycle to some of the old USAAF airfields along the backroads - Leiston has a nice memorial and includes Chuck Yeager and Bud Anderson amongst its illumini - Parham has a little museum and Bentwaters is an interesting spot too. |
I think the bridge at Walberswick is still being replaced at the moment so youd have to use the ferry or go the long way around to get to Southwold.

Ah, the Cathedral of the Marshes. My favourite of all the wonderful Suffolk churches I have seen. I can see why he is called TVR. He is clearly a Grantourer/turer? By the way, the beach cafe at Dunwich is most famous for selling the biggest variety of tea towels in the world.
