Actually, if they change name of the UK to United Finance, then that would give a rather easier understanding of how the country is set up, and the values and interests that are being represented. I mean let’s be honest, how do Syrian refugees boost United Finance? How do hungry kids in the North East impact our ability to provide sophisticated financial products? How do people who can’t afford to borrow for a house help our lending institutions? I need to get with the programme.

Become? Wasn’t the spite always there and now it’s magnified and reinforced by social media and a more rabid right wing press?

The nasty 52% of the country thought that one vote in 2016 gave them the right to vent their vilest instincts without any kind of debate or censure. Sadly, they would appear to be right. [Post edited 9 Sep 2021 12:14]

By ‘vilest instincts’ do you mean ‘very real concerns’?

I don't think the first is based in fact (but could be wrong). I suspect Patel can't just turn migrant boats back; there's probably something in maritime law that prevents her. That was what stopped them trying to pressure the RNLI into not rescuing people at sea, for example. So I suspect the first one is an aspiration, the second a fact.

No hypocrisy here on 11:27 - Sep 10 with 660 views | Darth_Koont | This was essentially the same point. An excellent one too. Only difference is that the people of a “certain political persuasion” could maintain their cognitive dissonance and disassociation despite being the Express’s core audience.

“Swim for Britain!” “Run for Your Life” “Turning Brown to Gold” “We Meddle, You Medal” This is fertile ground.
