Hope you're well today. As we are all football fans and generally look out for each others' wellbeing, I would like to raise a bit of awareness about Suicide on this forum. I'm sure a lot of posters here would have been either directly or indirectly affected by it in some way or another in their lives. As a reminder, suicide is the leading preventable cause of death for men under the age of 50 (source https://www.england.nhs.uk/blog/tackling-the-root-causes-of-suicide/). In 2019, 6,500 people took their own lives. Suicide prevention advice from the Mental Health Foundation suggests the following advice: W - Watch our for signs of distress and changes in behaviour A - Ask "are you having suicidal thoughts" I - It will pass - Assure your loved one that, with help, their suicidal feelings will pass in time. T - Talk to others - encourage your loved one to seek help from a GP or health professional. I appreciate it's a bit deep but also a timely reminder to check in with each other. If anyone is struggling, please call Samaritans on 116 123. | |
