My misses said to me your team is like the film Groundhog day. One of the few occasions I agree with her lol

Mine who is Irish and has no connection or understanding, but will accompany me when the game is near some good shops, actually things I have turned into some kind of weirdo who is into machoism. She thinks we all have some kind of collective psychosis that is fed by failure.

I'm struggling to counter this view.

(but she did buy a Town Teddy for herself, so maybe she has joined us)

But how can that have happened so quickly, to a freshly-assembled group of players, all of whom were apparently of good quality?

No tactical awareness, Cookies lost without Liam Richardson….. simple as I’m afraid .

Isn't it rather odd that there are these hollow shells of managers floating around, entirely dependent upon their second-in-commands? How is this tolerated in the sport?

Mind you, Cook did have some ability himself once, performed well with Sligo before he met Richardson.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

A drop to league 2 could be a blessing in disguise. Win games and dominate that league. We come back up to League 1 with so much confidence.

In a year or two we could establish ourselves as a major force in League One.

I’d be able to tick off a few new grounds as well.

Who was his assistant then? Maybe we should bring him in?

you really have to take the Sligo period in context. There were a number of teams that would traditionally have competed that were in dire financial situations and the league finishes were not great under the circumstances. Yes, the cups were Ok but the league not so good.

Is it time for someone to pee in each corner of the pitch?

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Thanks for the insight. Sheds rather a different light on that time.

Pre season... 1-0... Dartford.... Lol.

The goal was scored in the second half when the U21s were playing.

But a large proportion of them are. Players we were beating even Championship rivals to sign.

I agree Guthrum. You look at someone like Piggott who scored 20 goals in L1 last season, Walton who has played for Wigan and Blackburn at a higher level or Coulsen or Penny who were playing in the Championship last season. It’s different to trying to suggest Jackson or Donacien are decent players which we were last season. In the main, our squad is better man for man than last season and they have the stats and pedigree to prove it. However, they come here and as soon as they pull on that blue shirt they become poor players. I know we were saying our squad is one of the better ones in this league over the last couple of seasons, but this one genuinely is.

Last season we had 25 players that had played at a higher level

Not too many complaints when these new players came in during the summer. I look at the comments about Walton, yes he’s had a shaky debut for us and fans have already written him off after one game but the guy hasn’t played for months. He’s a keeper that has played near on 100 games in the Championship, not better than Holy or Cornell? Come on, he’s a big upgrade, but needs the games to get the rustiness out of his system.

So out of those 25 how many were genuinely good enough? If we went man for man with the new signings apart from a couple of exceptions, it’s difficult to say they weren’t improvements.

They are not all of good quality, that is the problem. Most are very average.

Can’t agree with this. Every player we have signed would be the marquee summer signing for just about every club in this league.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Yep. Talking down the players (again) is just silly. The squad has ridiculous quality for this level.
