The French seem to have the hump 10:28 - Sep 18 with 1087 viewsgiant_stow

Anyone know what happens next, after recalling it's Ambassadors?

Also, why did their crappy old subs cost so much? Seen one report saying the French contract was worth nearly £100B which would make each sub nearly £10b - seems expensive!

Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

they wait a couple of weeks and then send their ambassadors back.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Bit its ok for Macron to withhold AZ vaccine from Australia when they had placed an order.

One might think there is an election on the horizon...

War!!

No, not really. This is just a way of showing displeasure.

Plus they were not 'crappy old subs', but are capable weapons systems packed with expensive technolgy. With almost certainly an expensive servicing and mainenance contract on top.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Macrons hissy fit will carry on for a while, probably to distract his electorate from the problems at home, before everything returns to normal.

Nobody has done anything the French wouldn’t have done if it suited them.

Fair enough on the subs not being crappy - just seems pricey per machine. Clearly I know nothing, but just comparing them to the UK's new aircraft carriers, which I *think* were cheaper. From a simpleton's angle, that doesn't add up - there's more stuff in a carrier!

That's probably underselling the complexity of a modern naval submarine. A lot goes into making them able to move through the water as silently as possible, plus systems to detect other vessels and avoid being located themselves.

Diesel/electric subs actually have some technical advantages over nuclear ones, in that they run quieter underwater (nuclear reactors are noisier than batteries). But, obviously, they have much shorter range.

Change the name of any monterey jack cheese in the country to collaboration Jacques fromage then sulk.

All the while allowing a political party that borders on National front rhetoric to gain further traction on Macron.

There is only one think left for him to do and that's to let it be known to the French public he is having an affair, which should see a pump in his approval ratings given infidelity is a national pass time

Macron needs to be seen defending the interests of France as he is up for election next spring. With their electoral system if he can get through to the second ballot he is more or less guaranteed to win.

The decision of Barnier to stand makes it awkward for Macron. The far right, and left are likely to poll well but Barnier will look to attract some of Macron’s support, he will also take some voters on the right with his stance on Immigration and European Court of Human Rights, which are almost the opposite to those he expressed in Brexit negotiations.

Worth pointing out, last time around, the socialist vote was split. Had they United behind one candidate Macron may not have made the second ballot.

Strange thing about this is he doesn’t seem to have recalled .French ambassador to UK, or have I missed something.

The EU seem to have gone full bully in the playground since covid.

I'm quite glad we're not under the direct influence of that womanbaby Ursula von der Leyen.

Yes, yes, I know our politicians are crap as well.

Indeed, never trust a smartly dressed, haughty voiced woman with highly lacquered blonde hair.

We in the UK are speaking from experience.

You're right - they kept their ambassador in the UK in place - apparently, we're not the ringleader, just opportunistic. (and maybe they wisely decided that there's enough beef between us already).
