Never saw him play, way too young, but my father spoke highly of him. Although a Charlton fan he and his brother would often go to other teams games, Greaves was a favourite of theirs.

My father played against the likes of Greaves and Moore circa 1956 when he was a good amateur footballer.

RIP Greavesie. He was before my time but my old man reckons he was top quality. He's got connections with Ipswich too, his sister lives here

Just saw that.

RIP Jimmy. The greatest goalscorer that I was ever lucky enough to see play.

People used to complain that he was a 'goal hanger', but he was just a great goal poacher that had an eagle eye for a chance. Rip Jimmy. True legend.

I saw him play for Chelmsford right at the end of his career. He was rather tubby, played in midfield, rarely moved out of the centre circle, but ran the entire game.

Very sad.

In this Premier League era, I think quite a few people don't realise he is the highest goalscorer in English top-flight history. Remarkable.

Speaking to those older who saw him play, am told there was no better finisher in the English game at the time, or since.

Suiting that his 2 most famous clubs will be facing each other today, am sure there will be a suitable tribute impeccably observed, such was his popularity on and off the pitch.

Great player and likewise, that is still my favourite football pairing ever on a football show, used to love watching it.

Sad day, and what with Boycie too, it's spectacularly unfair!

Yeah, I also saw him play for Chelmsford - wasn’t old enough to see him play at a decent level though.

I don’t suppose he ever got over not playing in the World Cup final.
