I'm going to sound like a heathen here, but I actually found the US remake of The Ring more scary than the original.

Disclaimer: at least two people I recommended it to came back with a "what a load of crap" response. The Ritual (2017) is another good British one.

A group of us used to rent 4 vids from Anglia Video (?) on Naaaridge Road and have a horror fest on a regular basis. From that would suggest "The Burning" but haven't seen it for nearly 40 years ( tho I think it was on tv the other night). For all the horror films we watched I've never seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Scanners.

Yeah, supernatural stuff that really gets the mind going. Not so much gore etc.

It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

Bored and in need of a good scare on 13:31 - Sep 22 with 1311 views | Superblue95 | The only horror film I’ve actually considered scary is Sinister. Pretty sure I read somewhere a year or two ago that it topped a study where they measured peoples heart rates during horror films. Don’t bother with the second one though as that’s dogsh1t

Absolute classic of the genre
Bored and in need of a good scare on 13:40 - Sep 22 with 1277 views | ChiefXL | Host was released this year, was available on Prime Low budget, British horror set in lockdown. Very effective with shades of Paranormal Activity to it. Would always recommend The Descent (I'm trying to avoid the obvious ones here or those already suggested). I enjoyed Midsommar recently and Blair Witch scared the life out of me in ways other films haven't (it affects different people in different ways though, Mrs Chiefy thinks it's a pile of tosh). I tend to think back more on the films that whilst didn't film me with jump scares instead left a really lasting presence in my brain and I can't stop thinking about even though they're not well known. If that sounds good I'd recommend It Follows and two films that are kind of sequels, Resolution and The Endless.
