Upsides of the fuel shortages 13:51 - Sep 27 with 766 viewsbluelagos

1. Those muppets who do their shopping at the petrol stations, making motorists wait for ages to get to a pump are now getting some of their own medicine.
2. The roads were lovely and quiet today, bit like lockdown 1, perfect for cycling.
3. Brexiteer politicians might finally realise that simply removing freedom of movement (and creating labour shortages across a host of sectors from agriculture, transport, to caring, hospitality and medicine) without addressing those shortages isn't going to end well.

Any others good people of Twtd?

Brexiteers, no more blaming immigrants, the EU and Remainers.

This is all on you now.

Nah, it's all down to Covid apparently, which is partly true.

Wonder how they'll blame CV for the food shortages though?

Well those looking for significant improvements to the pay and conditions for drivers might be having a smug chuckle at all this. Although this may speed up the inevitable march towards driverless trucks.

Brexit may be a contributing factor, but not entirely to blame for this one.

DVLA (or whatever they are called now) have been a shambles, never the most efficient of government departments, but hiding away throughout Covid has created an almighty backlog and wait time for any drivers needing a test or a simple renewal of documents. I don't just know this from Twitter mumblings, I've heard this direct from haulers we work with.

Even with that in mind, there are driver shortages *everywhere* - though only the UK has managed to conjure up a run on fuel after a single company made it known they were struggling to keep a 'massive' 20-ish forecourts stocked.

Used 'no petrol' today as a way to get out of driving to a pointless meeting with someone who thought it good 'to get everyone in the same room'.

Point 3 isn't going to happen.

Brexiteer politicians will:

1 Blame Covid and the exceptional and unpredictable consequences
2 Blame the unreasonable EU whose fault it must really be because it always is
3 State there isn't really a problem, it is just the media reporting that has caused people to panic and make it appear like there is a problem when there isn't one really and we should all blame the blonde lady in the Range Rover for filling up with £2.99.

I agree with your points 1 and 2 even if I don't cycle and am stuck at home for the week anyway.
