It's been a standard yellow card for years.

You're welcome to stand still in front of the keeper, but make an effort to block it and you're getting booked. A professional player should really know the rules. Hadn't he ever wondered why players weren't doing it every dropkick?

What's the actual offence though that merits a yellow? I'm not aware of it being a specific law.

Agreed. I initially thought it was unlucky as I thought the keeper kicked it at him. Then I saw the replay. Yellow card every day.
