Outstanding interview by Naga Manchetty 07:59 - Oct 1 with 1858 views | bluelagos | With Kit Malthouse (Policing Minister) on BBC breakfast just now. Sure anyone can see it on catch up if interested. Her calm yet forensic questioning around the consequences of the conviction of Wayne Couzens, of the ongoing failure of the police to deal with cultural issues, including the failure to whistleblow where they come across misogynistic colllegaues, shone a light on the failure of the police to address these issues, tragically ending in the murder of Sarah Everard. She also clearly highlighted the awful position a single woman may find herself in, if stopped by an individual male officer who wanted to arrest her. And the question of whether Crissida Dick is the person to oversee any changes given her role at the head of the very organisation that continues to demonstrate a failure to address cultural issues around institutional sexism and of cover up.

Outstanding interview by Naga Manchetty on 08:07 - Oct 1 with 1808 views | DanTheMan | Caught it by accident as I don't usually watch TV in the morning but it was excellent. Some very good questions, particularly around the advice given around plain clothes officers which did seem quite absurd.

Probably the best advice I think comes here from an ex-officer.

It's a variation of what the Met (and the government actually) have been doing for years, placing responsibility on potential victims to keep themselves safe rather than tackling the wider issue in any meaningful way.

Clear there are a number of colliding issues highlighted by this case. Societal issues around violence to women and girls, justice system failings in obtaining convictions for sexual offences and policing issues of both internal failings (Vetting / whistleblowing) and their own failings to deal with misogyny in their ranks. The Macpherson report highlighted to the Met police (and to society - as no one serious thought the failings were only in the police force) the issue of institutional racism. Now surely is the time when institutional sexism/misogyny is addressed within the police, justice system and wider society? If not now, then when?

The Met have been very resistant to changing how gender based violence is treated: https://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/met-clash-with-ministers-genderbased-crime I'd like to think this will be a moment of genuine reflection and change but I can't see it. Their response to the vigil held after Sarah Everard's death was appalling and their defence of it even more abject. That their first response to the sentencing of Sarah Everard's murderer is to tell women to call for help if a plain clothes police officer tries to arrest them doesn't exactly suggest an organisation that's looking to immediately get it's own house in order. Parm Sandhu yesterday described how female officers didn't report male ones, for fear that when they were in need of backup, they would then be left alone. Something is clearly horribly wrong if that is a real fear of female officers and if that then prevents them speaking out against misogynistic colleagues.

And it seems that even when police are reported for crimes, they are less likely to be convicted.

It's incredibly hard for this Tory government to call for the resignation of anyone on grounds related to competence, credibility, or ethics. When they have none themselves, expecting it from others simply isn't in their MO.

Outstanding interview by Naga Manchetty on 15:00 - Oct 1 with 1020 views | GavTWTD | Naga is excellent. Intelligent, asks the right questions, listens to what the other person is saying, appreciates the free time that the other person has given to be on the programme at crap-o-clock, and shows tremendeous empathy generally. Charlie Stayt on the other hand is a cockwomble who is unable to ask a question under 100 words long.

SHE should never have been arrested and SUBMITTED to that," he said. "Perhaps women need to consider in terms of the legal process, to just learn a bit about that legal process".
