A plea to the Cook outers 19:24 - Oct 2 with 2584 viewswaveneyblue

I get that it was very apparent Hurst was out of his depth and had bought badly.

I get it that Lambert had only ever really done well at Norwich and dined off that for years.

But Cook IS a tried and tested very good manager at this level. He's had success numerous times.

Will you all just calm the fcuk down, please.

6 wins in 27 games in the third division. Those who have concerns aren't exactly getting on his back after one or two games. His record here has been really poor.

Calm down:

P28 W6 D11 L11

Yes carry on then!

He has had 28 games....and quarter of this season with a very good squad, his squad and we are still turning in performances like today.

I could accept losing today, never an easy game.
However I cannot accept the performance on the back of his record here.

Agreed it has... BUT, bear with me.

It's now one defeat in 4.

It could so easily become one defeat in 6, or 7.

Patience is still needed.....

For how long should we stay patient whilst another season in the third division passes us by?

No. No more free hits. Free hits is what saw us relegated and marooned.

F**k free hits.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Do you have any concern that Cook is not the right man? Personally I wonder if he needs someone in as a number 2 with sound tactical acumen.

Either way, I think the next 5 matches will determine his future.

Has it actually passed us by... there's 36 games left.

108 points to play for.

The game changer thing is the best thing to happen to the club for 30 odd years and the worst that's happened for a huge percentage of our "fan" base

Not without Wigan's current manager being his partner - on his own he's had a bit of success in Ireland 15 years ago, a poor stint at Southport and not much else.

True, we might manage 10 wins at this rate. Get a few draws too and we might just stay up.

Of course I have concerns. Massive ones

But changing manager now would be so counter productive.

It's genuinely not time to hit the reset button

It hasn't passed us by yet but if we continue our form from the first 10 games for much longer then it will have done. You urge patience, but we can't afford to just sit and wait for form that doesn't look like coming.

That's a fair position.

Although, if he turns out not to be the right man, the longer we leave him in post the worse the situation becomes.

I think there are real concerns over Cook’s coaching team (or lack of)

Anything less than 18 pts by the end of October will probably see him gone, especially when playoffs are already 9 ahead and promotion 12 ahead.

Worrying

Yes, I get that. It’s a shame you don’t get points for ‘track record’, isn’t it.

I stand by end of October and his start to this month is so disappointing. The reality is 10 games in we are a poor team. We are relegation fodder. 2 wins in 10 games. 10 points and we are lucky to have those. We are not good enough. It’s not a question of calming down. If that team cannot match the opposition with the basics, forget the rest. We can’t match anyone organised and together. We are easy meat.

In the relegation area after nearly a quarter of the season, mid table is realistically the target now. It’s not good enough. Cook’s time here has been truly awful. Tuesdays result was great, but it’s not enough. Unless it’s backed up it’s meaningless and against better opposition we never came close.

People talk about him bringing his players in. Maybe that’s the problem. They are actually meant to be professional footballers and when he goes, what are they going to do? Put in a transfer and head to Colchester? No, they’ll get on with it.

As I say, he has till the end of October and that’s being generous. We can’t wait for him forever in hope that he he might start doing a decent job. He seems all over the place and I can’t see him lasting.

Well what would you suggest Flashing?

What's the point at when it's OK to say Cook isn't getting it out of these players?

15 games? 20 games? 30 games?.

And I'm not counting all the games he had last season where he arrogantly wrote off a side that were only a couple of points off the playoffs, who then funnily enough weren't that bothered about playing for him.

Tried and tested with a decent assistant- who has proved himself already elsewhere. Raises a certain suspicion about who the brains of the outfit was previously.

I'll calm down when we are out of the relegation zone, until them I'm just a tad concerned. Cook is struggling without decent back up and that is plainly obvious.

There is next to no evidence from his time at Town that Cook has any idea how to set up & manage a football team.
He came in & inherited a team on the verge of the play offs & took them to mid table.
He has been given a vast budget by the standard of this league & has brought in players who should be some of the best at this level. Town have won 2 out of 12 games (14 if you count Cup games). These results aren't just down to bad luck - Town haven't played well in the majority of these games & frequently get bullied by clubs with inferior squads. Cook knows these leagues well, having had success, so he should know what is required.
The only conclusion I can draw is that Cook is something of a fraud & is out of his depth without Leam Richardson who, interestingly, declined to come to Town as Cook's assistant.
