Where is everyone drinking before the game?

Cambridge Away on 13:01 - Oct 10 with 3428 viewsWhos_blue

Most of the pubs in Newmarket road are long gone.
I think the Wrestlers still has a "no football fans" rule on match day. A great Thai curry though if you ever are passing though.
The Corner House is probably a "home" pub and has been a little feisty in the past.
Whetherspoons will undoubtedly be open.
Probably best to find a back street pub off Mill Road somewhere.
For some reason, CUFC still don't like us and I wouldn't be surprised if some of their little angels try some mischief at some point.
This is a big game for them and the Abbey rarely sees crowds this big.
I'm really looking forward to it, but will probably keep my head down before and after.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

The Empress on junction of Thoday St and St Philips St is a good call and about a 15 minute walk via Coldham’s Common.

EDIT - pics from last time I was there. They like their football but obviously need assistance with their puns.

The Cambridge Blue (off Mill Rd) was a bloody brilliant pub back in the day; I haven't been in there for about 4-5 years though.

Not going next week, very much wish I was.

Was good then I went there a couple of years ago. I’ll certainly be visiting at some point on Saturday.

Could certainly do with a Hamilton Hall equivalent so for the benefit of the rest of us on the day.

Why don't they? Must be 30 years since last league meeting??

If they want to kick off, where do you think flashpoints will be? I'm guessing you're local to Cambridge.

If you are going to station then there are a good half dozen pubs around Mill Road worth a look if you like your beer and they are on the way to the ground.

Then onto the Tram Depot and Duke which is just next door on East Road by the Grafton.

From there it’s a ten min walk to the ground.

Don’t underestimate it. Was tasty down the subway after the match last time around and in town before and after.

Simple.

Anything down East Road, Newmarket Road and the Regal in the town centre.

Still is very good.

For people who love proper craft beers (not cask ales), Thirsty on Chesterton Road is fantastic.

I'm not sure. You know how fans can hold grudges for ever!
I remember watching England in a pub and had a town badge on my shirt. A group piled in to my mates and I because of that.
Obviously can't tar all supporters with the same brush, but some of them just aren't that keen on us!
Hard to tell where any flash points might be. The walk up on both sides is very open, so should be OK. There's a little pinch point on the way to the away end, but would expect stewards or police to be there. The away terrace is old school where home and away fans are separated by railings, so the atmosphere between the two fans should be good fun!
I'm sure it will be fine, but this match seems to be a big one for them.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

Hello. Cambridge fan here.

Slightly surprised by some of the comments re: aggro - it's a big game for us and the atmosphere should be great, but we're generally pretty well behaved. Every club has a few choice individuals but I don't think there'll be gangs seeking out blue shirts... You should feel safe coming!

Parking and pubs - pretty well covered in these threads but to confirm - parking near MacDonalds on barnwell road is easy enough if you get there in good time. Just use street parking. Not usually any issues with wardens etc.

Cambridge as an away day is great if you plan in advance, we've got some stunning pubs and restaurants just chuff in all near the ground...

If you get the train it's a good pub crawl around Mill Road - Devonshire, Cambridge Blue, Kingston Arms, Calverleys Brewery, Alexandra Arms all great pubs. About 30 mins walk door to door, but you can break it up with a few pubs...

If you head to the town centre you've got loads more pubs and places to eat and then Uber to the ground. Pint shop is a good real ale pub in the centre, Eagle has the history (RAF bar, Crick and Watson etc). Plenty of better places than the Regal (filthy wetherspoons) if you do your research.

Enjoy the day (excluding 3-5pm).

I have heard that those travelling by train might expect a welcoming committee at Newmarket
