Take a step back and actually look at what is being talked about.
It is about watching what is being served up and giving an assessment. Shambert played horrendous football that didn't work, I just called what I saw. The Cook football isn't any better so and he has had 2 different enormous and expensive squads to luck from. The effect of this is we are hanging in the balance for this season, we could make the play offs with a change in performances but top 2 is becoming out of reach. Top 2 was the target
Why does giving an honest assessment of that mean I am trying to just be "I told you so" in the future. It is happening now and has been since last season. Nothing Cook has done on the pitch has been good enough
Ipswich fans have obsessions with the Emperors new clothes and they get really upset when someone points out the naked man. Why wait until we are so far down a direction until we admit it isn't working? |

It is incredibly similar and has been since day one. We still play the majority of passes around the edge of our own box and then resort too often to long punts to an isolated forward. It is not as bad a peak shanbert but it is also less effective than him. Indefuse to accept you are content with performances or results | |

And I say that knowing there are very very few signs of green shoots. His teams and set-ups fail to convince at all. And here we are yet again with a bloated squad and relying on loanees. Division 3 shouldn’t be this hard. |  |

Everyone with any sort of knowledge accepts he has been a failure over both seasons. For some reason some are desperate to just oppose what I say in the hope I will be wrong and others are just so blinded by the hype they can't see what is in front of them | |

I’d never pretend that it’s insight, it’s just what I’m seeing. And I’ve written about it in more detail in multiple threads over the past weeks.
But you’re never in those threads. You just want the big hit of a grandstanding statement and the inevitable reaction.
I remember the trolls of old like Newmarket ... so much sharper, more vicious and you could tell it was about more than attention. Oh and he was funny too!

I agree about the passing around the edge of our own box. I’ve never been a fan of the CBs at any level playing it around risking losing possession 30 yards from their own goal. I don’t see much hoofing going on though. It’s not exactly McCarthy is it? And I say that as someone who at times liked micks football when it was working with Murphy holding it up with direct and effective football. This is just not like that at all to my eye.
I genuinely (I’ve no reason to lie) prefer this brand of football I’ve seen this season to that of Lamberts and Hursts.
As for being content, I’m not sure anyone is content with 14th in League 1. We’re Ipswich town and it’s not even a Marcus Evans club weighing us down. We really shouldn’t be where we are. So on that metric it’s a failure. But Cook has been a success everywhere he’s been before us. He knows this league. He’s signed his group (I’m one of those willing to write of last season with the previous bunch downing tools quite obviously. I know you aren’t one to forgive last year but I personally see that very differently). Now, if we sack him 63 days into the season, after making a whole squad of his players, we’re starting again. And we’re starting from scratch again as the new manager would likely want a load of his players in and that can’t be til January at the earliest. So I’m inclined to let cook have until Christmas and see where we are. If we’re still bottom half by then, he’s failed. Quite clearly. I just don’t believe we will be. I have faith that the proven manager everywhere he’s been will still be just as good here with a little patience.
By all means I’ll criticise him when it goes wrong (as I did after that utter shambles against Bolton a few weeks ago) but we’re still better giving him a bit more time to see if he can get it right than sacking him and starting the process all over again.
That’s where I’m at. If that’s me being ‘content’, then so be it. | |
