I was very happy when Cook was appointed, he was my preferred choice. His record at this level is very good. However, I was really unimpressed with the job he did here last season and I don't think that's unreasonable. When he was appointed we were just outside the play offs, with an easy run in, coming off a good sequence of results. Cook himself was talking about gunning for automatic promotion. That he couldn't get anything from the squad and we limped to a midtable finish wasn't good. I don't think it's being harsh to judge Cook based on what he's actually done here.

This season has also not been anywhere near good enough. The last 5 games has been better but let's not lose sight of 2 of those games being at home against the worst two teams in the league. That run has also included a game at Accrington that was every bit as bad as most of our away performances under Cook have been. That's a worry and doesn't fit with a narrative that things are improving. I'm happy to give it this next 5 games and we'll know more then.

I still desperately want it to come good for Cook here, but having doubts is sensible given his terrible record to date.

Most of that’s fair enough and there’s no doubt last season was disappointing and this season started very poorly.

But you can flip that around and say that Cook probably isn’t a quick fix manager. Certainly not in the way you can imagine Mick coming in last season and eking a tune out of the squad.

But with the exception of Mick and possibly Royle none of our better managers have been quick-fix managers. That we do seem to be making progress after that poor start is at least a positive and I quite enjoy the current slow, incremental gains we’ve made, without hopping from different formation to different formation and trying to do things differently.

If we don’t keep improving and start slipping back then of course that’s a problem. But for the time being I like what I’m seeing and how we’re going about it.

Just like us being top scorers is based on what happened, but you added the IF of "IF we hadn't scored 6 against Doncaster."

They were perfectly legitimate goals, I'm not sure why anyone would take them out of the equation.

I agree with your last paragraph and what I was referring to which blubfish can’t grasp is that despite almost all of England’s starting 11 last night being in a top team from the Euros, they are 11 guys who don’t play together that often and last night with the 1 change to style/system they were unable to beat a well organised but much lower ranked team (Hungary are currently 37th in the fifa rankings).

She is quite happy to slag off cook and Ipswich for struggling against a team who at worst are ranked 23 places below us (assuming we are the top ranked team in L1) but can’t see that even the best teams can struggle

England have won 11 of their last 16 games though. By comparison Ipswich have won 4 games all season. Clearly there is a massive difference between failing to win the odd game against lesser opposition here and there, and failing to do so frequently as has been the case with us so far

Mental that you think there is somehow a point here, tbh

Some have gone so far as to edit out results from the first month of this season as well, which is rather odd. I'm also struggling to locate the quote Dollers has put in quotation marks, it doesn't appear on this thread anywhere other than in his post as far as I can tell.

We've had a seasonbsonfar of if we'd scored the penalty or if our player hadn't made a mistake. So weird

I haven't picked one. I focus on Ipswich and whether we are performing or failing

Na come on, you clearly have considerable football knowledge. Who in your opinion is the right man to take Ipswich on if is sacked? You can't push for this without a potential solution, right?

There was a whole thread on this issue the other week. The club is better placed to know who would be in budget and who would fit with the overall vision of the club. Without us knowing that we'd just be throwing names around. Not being able to name an ideal replacement isn't a reason to stick with a manager you think isn't doing a good enough job.

Every Banter Era time we replace the manager things get worse. With one honourable exception. That’s part of why your boy is Cook In.
Here’s the thing for me though, nobody is wrong about Cook yet. Blubbers isn’t wrong and Koont isn’t wrong, I choose them as they seem to represent opposing views. I think another few games, say another 5 or 6, will reveal who is more right.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Didn't say it was in this thread did I? But it's true to say people have used last season in their evidence that Cook can't get a tune out of us, even though we're talking about two different teams. It doesn't have to be in this thread to be true!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.
