Which ex manager would you pick 13:46 - Oct 19 with 1696 viewsBluefish

If you had a one off big game and needed one of them to step in and manage your team for a day?

I won't include big Mick because it wouldn't be a fair contest and the numbskull lot have suffered enough

keane
Jewell
Hurst
Lambert
Cook

Remember one off big game and not their players

I think Lambert would probably organise us best and if he is on it could inspire them initially at least

Probably Jewell, purely on the basis that he was capable of producing an outstanding result out of nowhere (6-0 v Doncaster, 5-1 v West Ham, 5-3 v Barnsley) which the others weren't.

He was sh1t but at least we were entertaining whilst being terrible, which sets him apart from Keane, Hurst and Lambert.

Edit: And there's nothing worse than being dull and uninspiring in a big game after all the hype beforehand - we'd lose but at least we'd go down in a blaze of glory

out of interest, what BIG game did MM win with his players?
general question, nothing anti him here. just dont recall any derby wins, no decent cup wins, some very solid wins, but whats BIG in your view?

But he didn't get anything out of our lot when he came in did he? I don't remember a win early on

Not sure how Jewell started but I think keane came in with a win possibly 2? The caveat then was the opposition were already on the beach I suppose

Fairish point but if Mick was on that list only a moron wouldn't pick him

Neither are Sir Alf Ramsey or Sir Bobby Robson but they were light years ahead of the list and either would do a better one off job.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

He got them going but the team that year was beyond saving, we just had no threat. The first few games were promising at least, with good football and it looked like something could happen.

Keane came in with 2 wins.

He didn’t get a anyone going. We were only 5 points adrift.

He needed to come in do a bit of a rescue job, play nasty stuff. Get wins by whatever means. Tried to implement that passing round the back style and failed.

Are we talking about the man that joined us at the time, or the man they are now?

If it's the man they are now then they're probably all looking like a busted flush currently, and you can include MM in that.

If it's who they are now then you may as well draw the name out of a hat for all the difference it will make.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Depend who you mean by "your team."

If it's current Ipswich then Cook would probably be best as they're his players (but you said not their players).

If it's an Ipswich from the past then it depends which.

If it's your local Sunday league/5-a-side/kids under 10's team, then Roy Keane would probably inspire them the most as he's the most famous.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

No he didn't, but there was a marked change in how we were playing and it was positive for the first few games - we just lacked the personnel as evidenced by Jordan Roberts playing as a lone striker.

By the time we could up quality we were too far gone - and then he just gave up it seems.

The performances were much better, we just didn't have the players with any experience to do what we needed, whether that's play nasty or nice. Evidenced by the Millwall/Bristol games where we should've won but couldn't hold on. The squad was so poor.

Depends what you define as a big game but Cook arguably hasn't presided over any yet, so hard to say.

So Jewell. Won games when he first came in and beat West Ham home and away.

I'm are he'd get an Improved Performance that would see game by 3 goals.
