Bonne's scoring record 11:17 - Oct 20 with 1430 viewsbracknell_blue

Anyone out there know when was the last time we had a player reaching double figures before the end of October? Can't recall one but may justbe my memory.

Bonne's scoring record on 11:29 - Oct 20 with 1366 viewsjayessess

Waghorn had 10 by 2 December 2017 (but only scored another 6)
Murphy got to 10 by 4 November 2015, so pretty close
Darren Bent 4 December 2004
Stewart 10 December 2001
David Johnson 27 December 2000

No-one got close in the 1990s. So it's probably back to the 1980s.

It's John Wark in 1980, as far as I can see. He had 11 goals, unbelievably, by 20 September. But didn't make it 10 league goals until November.

For 10 league goals by the end of October, you have to go back to Ray Crawford in 1966, but he scores his 10th on the 22nd October, 3 days later than Macca!

In 1962 he had 10 by 29 September though, which I think is our record. In 1961 we had two players with 10 by the end of September - Ted Phillips and Crawford - both scored their 10th on 30 September.

So, Macca's the first player to do it since 1962 anyway.

...and a defensive midfielder to boot. What a player. I know (and witnessed) what a colossus Beattie was, but in terms of actual achievement there is also a case to be made for Warky as our greatest ever.

He was never a DM in the current sense.

He was an out and out box to box midfielder.

In terms of number of games rather than dates I suspect Jonno got there as quickly or more quickly in his first season with us. He went on a crazy run of goal scoring form.

Took Johnson 16 games to score his 10th. 91 days from debut. Macca is 12 games, 73 days from debut.

I stand corrected. I thought Jonno scored in something mad like 8 games in a row, maybe he did but then dried up a bit.

That's true, although he actually started out as a defender.

Despite all that his longevity, while actually winning things, is certainly without parallel here, and probably almost anywhere.

Scored 6 is in his first 7, then 4 in his next 9

Indeed, imagine what he'd be worth in todays mad market!

Surprised that Kiwomya or Mathie didnt get close in the 90's.

Kiwomya never had a 20-goal season for us and his best season, 1991-92, his 10th goal wasn't until February.

Mathie's best season for us (19 in all comps, 1995-96), he scored 6 times in our first 5 league matches, then didn't score again until the end of October. His 10th was on January 1st, 1996.

Thanks for that research (and later posts in this thread). If I get time, I'll make it the subject of the history display in the Fanzone on Saturday!

It did get me wondering how many Crawford and Phillips would have scored in Div 3 South!!!!!

Think Mathie dislocated his shoulder which would explain the gap.
