If it’s true, and I assume it is to see him bare his soul like that is pretty horrible. Payoffs or not, the lack of dignity on Tyneside is unsavoury.

Telling how some players have spoken of his character above everything else too.

Reminds me of Mick's end. Ended up as human shield for an owner who didn't give a ***k anymore. All the frustration of the club underachieving and lack of attention and investment was aimed at him. He played hard to watch football but he kept them up and got the best out of the players he had, I don't reckon he had much say in transfers.

I heard something on the radio earlier that Bruce was in tears when he got offered the Newcastle job, it was the one he'd always wanted. Managing his hometown club, yet the most vitriol he got from the very start was from the 'Geordie Nation'

No different to a lot of people on here and in the town over PC and 'last season' and the beginning of this one.

A man who came in, realised what was wrong with the club, made drastic changes to make the club better for the future, yet months and months of hate.

i'll have a moan after a bolton loss etc or a cambridge draw, wake up the day after, sobered up and carry on supporting to the next game. But the endless threads of PC dislike has been incredible for someone doing his best to change the club for the better.

Indeed. I think a lot of fans park their brain – and their sense of right and wrong – when it comes to football.

But they’re losers who think their passion gives them a personality and status.

I hope he focuses now on his literary career.

One of the things that got me through lockdown is Striker being read out a couple of pages at a time with Ian Danter doing a perfect Steve Bruce impersonation on H&J on Talksport.

Agreed.

His novels are stunningly beautiful works of art.

That review, in your top link, is brilliant!

That's nonsense.

Is it. A few games with a bunch of disinterested players was enough to tell Paul Cook what was what; a dozen games with a whole new squad some of whom are only now into a handful of games. Paul Cook deserved a lot more trust and patience than he got from a (thankfully) minor but vocal group of ...what shall we call them? ...fans? nah! ...supporters?NAH!
