The 7+ yr old old iPhone 5s is struggling these days. I guess phones are all much of a muchness, although are there any recs out there for compact(ish) phones? I’m all on Mac, so was thinking iPhone 12 mini. Is 5G a must these days? I’m happy to go for that if it makes a difference, although mostly I’m on WiFi. I mostly use the phone for organising, work emails and apps, TWTD and footie highlights on YouTube. Occasionally I even make a call. Waterproof would be a plus.
Have recently upgraded to the iphone 12 mini after years with a 6s and wished I'd done it sooner. The speed isn't even comparable.
If you want to stick with a similar size and can't be bothered to learn how to use a different brand then the mini is the way forward, the screen is actually slightly bigger than the iphone5/6 though as it doesn't have the home button (which you'll quickly get used to).
Wouldn't worry about 5g, haven't got it in my area so have just turned it off on the phone
Works out much cheaper to buy upfront rather than the "upgrades" the providers try and sell you.. .

It's funny how people's experiences differ, but maybe it's just down to personal requirements...my wife got a Samsung A51 for under £300 at the start of the year to replace her Iphone6 and reckons its brilliant with 3 day battery life, and I've had a Galaxy S8 for years with zero issues.
I'd put Android phones above Apple, you get far more for your money. Samsung S10 and Sony Xperia are great, headphone jack, memory card slot, huge flash drive in them. I've never liked using I-Phones, the most overpriced electrical products ever created.
