Sunak about to cut taxes on domestic flying 12:25 - Oct 27 with 3086 viewsElderGrizzly

Which is at complete odds with any COP26 commitments to reduce emissions, making trains an even more expensive option.

We should be following the France model of banning domestic flights less than 2.5hrs not promoting flying

Rail takes investment and foresight, plus addressing the failings of the past.

Amazing.

When you look at the state of the UK and wider world today and then you see it's this sort of thing that comes to their minds. Of course, great idea! That'll be a real gamechanger for ordinary Brits and a winner for the environment too!

Lunatics.

How long has France had the TGV network now? Our national rail network is laughable for European standards. A total fudge of public and private, plus hugely expensive to use.

On a related note, this shows how the UK is falling behind, not just in infrastructure and ambition terms but also with its accepted narrative about the world and climate change.

And, after yesterday’s YouTube shenanigans, a good chance to highlight why Novara Media are important and necessary journalists nowadays.

Although China did also say they were aiming to maximise their use of coal over the next 5 years, which is at odds with the rest of the world.

They are an easy bogeyman here for many, especially with their refusal to attend COP26 where they would simply be a punching bag

Indeed. There’s no doubt that China needs to do more and their relatively low per capita output needs to be put against their vast population size.

But equally there’s no doubt that they currently look much more able to respond to climate change than we do. We talk a good game but we’re almost totally incapable, intellectually and ideologically, of taking the steps and making the central investment/planning needed.

It's a headline grabber that removes focus from the real issues and papers the Daily Mail and The Sun will lap it up.

Costs him a lot of money, makes sod all difference to the recipient.

Labour right budget if we’re being accurate.

But yes, pretty much nothing would change under the current opposition. When they’re not being outflanked by the government they’re getting neutralised. Utterly weak and self-serving nonsense.

With the greatest respect - yes, yes you could not only make it up but, with a high degree of confidence, expect something like this from our current incumbent leaders.

It is pretty much true though isn't it that the heady mix of Corbyn and covid has enabled the Tories to discover the fruits of the money tree and deliver a new Labour style budget?
