Agendas 15:32 - Oct 31 with 4921 views | homer_123 | Just to be clear...a lot of people talking about agendas in the past 48 hours or so. The way I see it...as Town fans our agendas are all exactly the same. We want the Club to be as successful as possible, regardless of who's playing, managing or owning the Club.

Agendas on 13:57 - Nov 1 by wkj | I am not saying we would make stacks of cash on these players, but they are much more likely to be sold than released, IE mitigating losses. The thing of it all is that fans are often a poor judges of players. Those who are playing well are overvalued, those who are not are undervalued. I think it is way too soon to be casting doubt over the resale value of our players when it is highly likely that Cook isn't getting the best out of some/many of them. Well... it is a guarantee he's not getting the most out of Piggott for example. He scored 20 last year, so a capable player - yet he only got his chance to shine as a starter in an incomplete squad. Not that dropping Bonne is a sensible idea based on his scoring form this season - yet the fact remains we have a good player at this level who isn't getting a chance to be at his best. |
Re Pigott, he on a free transfer offering a package that was better than other teams were prepared to offer. If we wanted to offload him now, other teams aren’t magically going to offer him that package now so we’d have limited options, and in reality be either paying up some of his contract or shifting on a free That may change if he gets a run of games and starts banging them in but even then he’d have to be exceptional to generate interest as 28 year old (as he’ll be later this month) League One strikers just don’t move for sizeable, or even medium fees Personally I think you need to have a look at the market in recent windows and see what fees are being spent, as it really isn’t a lot aside from a few standouts

The recent market is so hard to judge future transfers though. I highly doubt we're going to be giving away many of our current players to Colchester United over the coming seasons.

I mean, I would say the actual recent transfer window is a much better gauge on the market than just guessing or deciding players will be worth loads because you want them to be…

Agendas on 12:20 - Nov 1 by itfcjoe | It can, but I can't imagine it is what is hoped for - we were able to go bigger on wages this year as able to raise £3m+ selling of the academy players from last season......we don't have that any more os end up in a bit of a purgatory. We will want to freshen up the squad in the summer, and with the loans going back will realistically end up 10 in and 10 out - but the only ones we can shift are those who have performed well as need the money......which doesn't help anything. We've got a superb squad now, it really is in everyone's interest for Cook to sort it out ASAP and get us up. If I had to put in order what I want to happen now it would be: 1 - Cook sorts it and we start flying 2 - Cook crashes and burns then goes 3 - We bumble along for the next 12 or so games not really closing the gap There couldn't be a worse game for us that Wycombe tomorrow, followed by a Cup break. That's not nice scheduling with what we have done so far and did at the weekend |
That’s a fair and reasoned argument. I think we all want Option 1. If results were to take a catastrophic turn, then I suspect most people would concede Option 2 is probably inevitable. But I wouldn’t say we’re at Option 3 right now. We’re not bumbling along, we’re sixth in the form table and have been closing the gap. That’s why I wouldn’t sack Cook right now. For me the big question is who has more chance of delivering promotion this season? Cook or someone else. There aren’t many realistic names floating about right now and if a new man comes in, will he need a season and a half to implement his plan? Cook hasn’t had that yet. I want out of this division as quickly as possible, I don’t want to write off another season by hitting reset unless it is necessary or there is someone out there who will quite clearly get more out of this squad.

Which I have not done, I have forecast that our current squad will be used to generate a much more sustainable recruitment policy than we had under Marcus Evans.

Agendas on 22:08 - Oct 31 by Keaneish | This forum has had some bad lows in the past and yesterday was one for me. After doing a 15-hour door-to-door round trip and chatting to good number of Argyle and Town fans, the conversation was upbeat, positive and looking forward despite the result. Plymouth fans acknowledging we deserved a point and Town fans recognising the same. Cut to coming on here and there’s folk who live at the other end of the country who never, if rarely go to games either calling for Cook to go or giving him 4 games! It’s so out of kilter with what’s actually going on it’s absurd. Then there’s the data warriors, the MM rear guard, those loyal to anything and anyone trying to find a scraps to make a case for a defeat without even watching highlights! Think I’ve said enough on the subject. I’ll be at Adams Park as will others. Many will be on iFollow but if we lose this forum will be toxic. TWTD is getting a bad name for itself now and in my opinion, it’s the usual folk policing it that make it this way. [Post edited 31 Oct 2021 22:09]

Agendas on 14:59 - Nov 1 with 578 views | Bluespeed225 | Ah, you fell for the old one about thinking it's all about football on here! Mention the last result, formations, injuries etc, then watch it get twisted into someones political agender! If TWTD was till sold from a paste table out the back of the SBR and people had to post in their views we wouldn't have this problem!

Agendas on 08:19 - Nov 1 by itfcjoe | I just don't see that we have made solid investments with solid resale value - we've recruited to achieve success right now - and that includes the big loan signings which will be costing a pretty penny. Only 3 of our signings are 23 and under (Edwards, Harper and Penney) and realistically clubs in the 2nd and 3rd tier don't get decent fees for players over that age. There were only 37 deals involving a fee from Championship clubs this summer and bar the parachute clubs it is young players in the main. Only 4 players left the Championship to the PL for a fee over £3m. You don't go out and sign Sam Morsy, Bersant Celina and Christian Walton on deadline day - with the latter 2 as loanees if the squad is being set up for promotion this season. The longer team infrastructure and odd field work will be going on in the background, and continue to do so - but this squad should be in that pack at the top of the league, not floundering 10 points away from it. The conclusion that we can already judge that we don't have any saleable assets is mad Joe. I don't get why you relentlessly single out this issue of owner spending at this stage of their tenure? Yo0ur willing to back them but insinuate that ALL their signings ultimately will fail. The owners are comfortable with this spend. The owners have decided to pay these fees and salaries. The owners will ensure we comply with financial rules. What's this 'pretty penny' daily agenda really about? Your emphasis on academy fees as the only possible solution is pretty transparent. Why worry about something that doesn't need worrying about? | | | | Login to get fewer ads
