Luke "Reg" Varney has retired 13:24 - Nov 2 with 884 viewswaveneyblue

Made 43 appearances, scoring 5 goals for us.

Two loan and one brief permanent spells

A player who says everything about the Marcus Evans glory days.

And people moan now......

And interestingly started and finished his career at a club named after a veggie food producer.....

Alternatively he was a cheap punt who made a decent contribution to a team that were much greater than the sum of its parts.

Of all Micks cheap punts he is nowhere near being one of the crappest. I quite liked him

My hobbies include being quiet during trips, clapping with songs, and diabetes.

I never said he was the crappest, the fact he was given 3 separate "goes" here says a lot more.

Also not being the crappest wasn't much of an honour in the face of some absolutely shocking competition.

6 goals for us if you include the one he scored when playing for Burton.

He was a horrible player to see lining up for the oppo in his Leeds days. As was the case with a few players, we picked him up 5-10 years too late.

Is it forgotten that Varney contributed to a side that finished 6th and 7th in the Championship? I'd hate to be that rubbish again....

....he gave us a plan B when we were chasing games.

Something we sorely miss at the moment.

That's just settling for mediccrity though. Mid table League One and 'long term rebuilds' is where all the cool kids are at.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

he only "contributed" 2 goals in those seasons though, one less than renowned goalscorer jonathan parr!

can't fault his effort though, good luck to him in his retirement
