Homophobic (Fashanu) Chant's- Plymouth to Paddington train 16:40 - Nov 4 with 13678 views | Paddingtonblue | Hi all, Really wish that I didn't have to post this sort of thing but I was wondering if anyone was on the 18:16 train from Plymouth to London Paddington, specifically around carriages C-E. I was on this train, and alongside general anti-social behaviour which caused BTP to be called twice, there were several chants of the homophobic song related to Justin Fashanu from several Ipswich fans. This song was sung several times and despite them being aware it was wrong and some people mentioning it to them they simply did not care. I have spoken to the club and the police about this and despite managing to get videos/photos/names of these people, I unfortunately didn't get enough evidence for the club or police to do anything about these people. If anyone else saw anything send me a PM or contact the club as I really think these people need to face some kind of punishment and should not be allowed to represent the club (which they were doing in their shirts and singing Ipswich songs).

Homophobic (Fashanu) Chant's- Plymouth to Paddington train on 17:33 - Nov 4 by ITFC_Forever | We were on that train, but further up in coach J with a number of other Town fans, and we had a good laugh. Some rugby fans on their way back to Pewsey (no. we'd never heard of it either) also got on at Westbury and we had a laugh with them. One woman got up and moved carriages, as perhaps we were a bit noisy at times, but certainly no-one was offensive in any shape or form. |
Yeah I think I just got unlucky, some other carriages just seemed like good natured fun but unfortunately not in the middle of the train.

There are enough decent Town fans who can make their displeasure known when they hear this sang. I go to a fair few away games, mostly oop north, and have never hard it.

I agree but unfortunately like I said some people tried to say something and they were aware it was wrong but didnt seem to make a difference to them

A charge isn't a conviction. You're making yourself look a massive tw@t here.

Sorry but this is all a little weird. You're saying they were chanting their own names and places of work? Why would they do that? It's a little too convenient for your story don't you think? If it is true then I really hope they are caught and punished. As I say though it's all just a little bit strange.

It's a little too convenient for your story don't you think? - This kind of attitude is why people are hesitant to post things publicly. This and the attitude of people like sitters. Your first thought is to discredit and question then offer lukewarm support in some kind of afterthought. They were chanting eachothers names, only got two of them, then they were talking/bragging about some of their workplaces (one of which was a teacher). In a 3 1/2 journey, lots gets mentioned and talked about. Most of it was general chat some of which I noted after the homophobic chanting in order to try find these people so that I could report them. Does this suffice for you? What would be convenient is if it never happened and I didn't have to report it to be honest. How is any of this convenient for me or for anyone? [Post edited 4 Nov 2021 21:27]

This kind of attitude? What attitude exactly? If you're trying to insinuate I'm homophobic then you are barking up the wrong tree. I have came to the defence of the gay community on here a few times. One of my best friends is gay. I have a few posts from other threads to back this up. This story just doesn't sit right with me. I'm scratching my head at the name chanting and "bragging" of jobs.

Not at all, the attitude of seemingly questioning what I witnessed. I wasn't calling you homophobic, I am just perplexed at your seeming desire to call into question my account of events when you weren't there? I have no need to lie, I didn't know these idiots, I don't wish to know them. At the start of the journey didn't really care about them, I was happy to join in with a few blue armys but then when the homophobic chants started at infrequent intervals I didnt want to be associated with them. From that point I tried to take some sneaky videos and listened into what they were saying. There was chants of XXXXX (name) does what he wants, he does what he wants etc... and then some others were calling down the carriage at eachother. One of them was saying about how he was a f*****g science teacher and its a piece of cake etc.. laughing about it, maybe bragging wasn't the right word but he was definitely not shy about it (i am sorry if my semantics offend you). The issue seems to be you are judging their actions of those of reasonable, rational people which they were not. So if you want to continue to question my rhetoric then I guess go for it but I would just think if someone else is reading this who has been intimidated about saying something because people will call them a grass or think they are not telling the truth, how would your unexplainably suspicious attitude make them feel? Like I said I have no reason to lie.

I certainly didn't get that he was suggesting you were homophobic, but certainly that the 'Come on mate, pull the other one, its got bells on' attitude, which you've clearly displayed can be what dissuades people from speaking up. The OP may well have got the syntax wrong, but I've been on plenty of coaches where fans have discussed their jobs between each other before chanting "Dave-o is a w&nker" and the like. So have you.

Not to make light of the situation but I do now have an image in my head of the OP reporting the suspect as ‘potentially called Edward Ebeneezer Jeremiah Brown’.

Homophobic (Fashanu) Chant's- Plymouth to Paddington train on 22:54 - Nov 4 with 1905 views | N2_Blue | I'm surprised that people seem to be giving the OP a bit of a hard time in saying it seems a bit wierd. I only get to away games in and around London but i have unfortunately heard this abhorrent song sung in a pub or on the train nearly every time I travel to a Town game in London. There have been times where its drowned out very quickly thankfully by another chant but it happens more often hen some fans seem to think I have no idea who they are but very sad this continues and seems planned and almost organised judging by the Cambridge stickers story. I think as fans we really need to do more to stamp this out as some will know these individuals.

One thing I would say on this, if the club don't take action but you are able to piece together names and places of employment, many employers will. Whilst it would be wrong to name people on the Forum, there are a number of teachers on here who might know where specific ones work. Most schools list the names of teaching staff if you got a surname. There is a possibility that people were misusing someone else's name but with video footage it should be clear whether they are the individual claimed or not. Feel free to send a pm.

Quite. There’s no reason to think this is made up as we’ve all heard it at some point. It’s probable the stickers the other week were by one/some of our own (although you never know).

You want the name of someone that may have had their name used wrongly to then do your own investigations, to then tell their employer? even if person X was there the video the guy speaks of doesnt show the song being sung. singing that song is wrong, but going about this in the way you mention is sht too
