Let me let you into a secret...they are not sustainable!!

I haven't warn a watch of any kind for decades - I don't find them either physically or psychologically comfortable, or practically necessary. I do think that I am a bit of a dick notwithstanding.
Vanity gadgets are rarely sustainable, but vanity gadget manufacturers are very good at sustaining the bullshyte that manipulates our egos into seeing their crap as 'must have', irrespective of the geocide of which we are culpable.
Feel very much the same about wearing a wristwatch. Possibly as a result of them, or the straps, constantly breaking in my childhood.
Not really necessary any more, having effectively a fob watch (mobile phone) in my pocket anyway.

You could have a side business at FPR
A friend of mine makes a good living buying and selling antique watches (and rare antique perfume too oddly). He doesn't wear a hat and raincoat, but I reckon you would know from looking at him that he ducks and dives.
Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

I'm lucky that I can buy a few watches here and there but I'm very focused, only vintage Seikos or modern homage watches.
For context, one of the original NASA lunar astronaut's wore a Seiko automatic watch into space because he didn't like the NASA issued Omega Speedtimer.

Speed master not speed timer I think you’ll find, incidentally it was the only wrist watch tested and passed by nasa for space flight, still an iconic Swiss time piece today. Holds its value well too.

Indeed.
Speedmaster is the Omega, Speedtimer is the Seiko.
Totally agree that the Omega Speedmaster is a lovely watch. The vintage Seiko Speedtimers are actually not that cheap but far cheaper than the Omega of course.

I've a Samsung Gear Sport and I don't consider myself a dick. That's for others to decide.
I do think it's made a positive impact on me losing weight. Plus its useful for other stuff like notifications and feel its safer when driving, although I now have Alexa Auto (I have an old car with no connectivity and that helps loads). I never answer calls while driving but do like to see who has rung so I can stop if need be.
It's another bit of tech that I think improves my life, like smart tvs, the car, washing machine. I don't think it makes me a dick, no.

Just for using the tube and Apple Pay, a smart watch is a great tool.
I have a rather nice watch that I treated myself to but do long to use a smart watch sometimes but I just cannot justify it now. I have missed the boat.

Just feel omega have done far too many versions of the speed master, it’s almost made it a bit gimmicky, best to stick to the classic models. Some of the grand seiko range are fantastic watches but also have grand prices !

I mainly work up ladders fitting windows and only have a smart watch so I can see who is trying to contact me without having keep looking at my phone. Im also able to take calls from it with looks a bit odd to someone that catches me talking to my wrist. Only good for this reason though. Once through the front door it’s off.

It's one of lifes few pleasures to have a properly automatic or fancy quartz watch. Everyday the pleasures decrease so I'm firmly in the anti-smartwatch camp.
I'll stick with my collection of vintage Seiko's thank you, very sustainable given most were made 40+ years ago.

Interesting take! Tractor production in the Urals is setting new records.
You say interesting, but it is true. If nobody moved house, if nobody brought cars, if nobody brought clothes etc, the country would be on its knees. Instead of trying to tell people what they should or shouldn't be doing, why not let them make up their own minds on what they spend their money on. I have a smart watch and in a couple of years time, I will buy another one. My choice, not yours.

...or we might have found a better way of existing. Imagine if good things were still made for the mutual benefit of all and no money was involved! Mind blowing.
