We weren't very good at the time, of course, and West Ham were to finish 3rd, but we were excellent on the night and should have won. It finished 1-1 aet. I was an impressionable young lad and it was my first experience of a big Portman Road crowd (over 25k) under the lights. It was fantastic. We lost the 2nd replay, also at Portman Road, two days later in the snow and in front of 14k. I didn't go - two school-night games in the same week wasn't going to be allowed.

You definitely saw the best one. That second replay was absolutely freezing. An early Tony Cottee goal done for us that night and we never looked like scoring. All very flat after the Tuesday game which was a great game and atmosphere.

The Clive Woods goals must be one of our best ever goals - I saw the 0-0 at Portman Road record crowd 38,010 but couldn't get to the replays to see it. Was in the snow at Chelsea for the semi replay but the least said about that the better. I did enjoy the 4-1 last match that season when Hunter and Beattie both scored against West Ham - what a pair they were. All seems very long ago but memories remain bright.

They were the current Champions of England, had Shearer etc playing, we were league below. For me still the greatest individual goalkeeper display I've ever seen in Richard Wright, given he was just 18. Also was the start of 5 incredible years under Burley after his rebuild started in 1994, 1996 - 2001, full to the brim of brilliant memories. But the Blackburn win signalled Ipswich Were Back.
