Might be best to avoid the A1, static in Cambridgeshire due to a vehicle fire with air ambulance having attended. Think it may be a long wait.

There was a helicopter on the carriageway for a while but that left some time ago.

Can't you get off before Pboro? Get into Pboro and head for A47 Leicester which takes you to A1 North turning..

Though you may turn back looking at the time..

Probably to collect the EADT boys and deliver them to Boundary Park in good time for kick off. Such is the Archant budget these days!

I imagine he and many others were/are stuck on the A1 with nowhere to go.

I don't understand Waze, does it give you more information than navigating by Google maps would? Google maps automatically pops up with alternatives when confronted with a delay ahead.
Do I need Waze in my life?

On its own, it's useless. But with the addition of the accompanying app, Meanz, you be able to achieve almost anything.

I think you're right. I may have to see whether I can get an agency to cover the game.

I'd get on the blower if I were you Phil. Highways Agency stating it won't be cleared until 10pm!

Our road network and authorities are poor.

Can see from that picture that one lane or even two could be opened!

Don't be too quick to criticise.

If it's a long closure it can be due to a number of reasons including repair to the barrier or road surface.
If it's a fatllity, it becomes a crime scene and the road is closed for investigation purposes. This can take hours and so it should.
Inconvenient yes, but it could also be someone's worse day.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

Fair points but There has to be a middle ground though, surely. As sitters photo shows, you could get at least one lane of traffic moving in one direction

Yes I know all that and yes sometimes it can’t be helped but sometimes it’s OTT.

Not really.

Trouble with big lorry fires is they tend to completely melt the road. They usually need an hour or two after it is out to do quick investigation, pictures/measurements etc and then temporarily resurface the road. That's why vehicle fires are usually a few hours stationary. Putting out the fire is the quickest aspect.

Not necessarily.

If it is a fatal accident, any debris left across any of the carriage way has to be left in situ and catalogued appropriately as part of any investigation.

No, got to seven miles away before another accident means I'm sitting in more traffic, this time on the M62.

It opened just after five going north, think the other lane was still shut.
