Subscription Manager? 11:20 - Nov 24 with 620 views | pennblue | This might be a bit out there as an idea, but seeming as we want to get rid of all of our managers after 3-6 months (more than enough time to get us into the Prem), should we look for a 'lighter weight' engagement model, something where there is only one months notice in the contract?

That might actually work...... Job Description: Ipswich Town Manager Reports into: CEO Minimum Duration: 90 mins (plus injury time) Job Description: You are required to take charge of a team of players and implement an attractive playing style, whilst remaining top of a League of 24 teams, all trying to do the same thing (and been trying a lot longer than you). You will need to be the most tactically astute in the League, a greatest motivator, and have the greatest man management skills. Whilst the minimum duration of the contract is only 90 mins, it is highly likely, if you perform to the required standard, the position could be extended to 12 months, but we must stress there is an expectation that you will hit the required level. Fan management will be a big part of the job, as they will be at the work place a fair amount of time, and will be looking to throw insults, boo you, and call for your head at the first sign of trouble. This is what many think their role is, as the job description has been somewhat confused over the past 2 decades. You will also be required to do coach management, player management, stakeholder management. Pay: Above the national average Life Insurance: We offer a comprehensive life insurance policy as you will likely not be able to acquire one yourself on the open market

I know you think you’re being hilarious here, but if you remove the bit about 90 minutes then you’re saying the expectations are: Implement attractive playing style - desired at most clubs Being top of the league - a goal at every single club in the history of football ever Other teams having had managers in place longer - well duh, a new manager at a club will have been there shorter than others, by default Tactically astute, great motivator, man management skills - literally the job of a football manager Expectation to hit the required level - again true of every single club ever Fan management - all professional clubs have fans Coach management, player management, stakeholder management - see tactical bit I really don’t think this is quite the ‘ha, look at all you morons expecting too much’ point you think it is. In fact the only other bit of your description that is off is the salary part, which in our case should read ‘well above the league average’

It IS the same at every club for sure. But it IS ridiculous, no other industry would you expect someone to come in to a completely failing organisation, on its knees, with years of underinvestment, and expect it to be world beating in the 1st year. (just trying to provide some balance) [Post edited 24 Nov 2021 13:51]

No one expects us to be world beating, they expect us to be competitive in the third division for which we have considerably highest resources than pretty much every other team. Particularly as we were already in the top third of clubs in said division when the current manager arrived So no, a job description of ‘be a decent football manager’ is not ridiculous

Surely everybody wants a top 2 finish? This is a really weird thread tbh. You seem amazed that people want a manager that is good at being a football manager and a football team that is successful. Bizarre
