I think as long as we are single digit points away from the playoffs come January then he will be given the full season. Anything bigger than that and I’d expect some tough discussions will be had amongst the owners and Ashton.

Where are people getting this idea we're gonna sack Cook from? Can't see it happening (at least for a while) tbh

I think they'll see how December pans out. Big trouble if the next league game is an L, bigger trouble if there's no W in the next 2.

Don't disagree in principle, but its interesting how quickly we're regarding 6th as a success. It was only a few months ago we had the best squad and biggest budget in the league. We're 9 and 11 points behind Plymouth and Wigan respectively ffs. For me, the point at which top 4 becomes nigh on impossible is the point at which Cook can have no complaints. I would agree, right now it would feel a little premature. If I were Cook I would be thinking we're still in the cup and we're a good run of wins away from pushing ourselves towards the playoffs, give me the chance to see it through this season, or at least nearer to a conclusion.

100% agree with this.

We have an awful habit of managing down expectations at our club.

I'm not saying people are right in demanding Cook out right now either, but this season was never about a scrap for 6th place, and yet this now seems to be the accepted target for a large chunk of our fan base.

I think Cook thinks he is close to the sack, not sure what the powers that be are thinking though

Clearly not "trigger happy" as he'd already be gone.
I think for the average owner he'd be one loss from the sack, which is why Cook probably assumes he is.
If they're more Evans like you'd have to imagine he's got a lot more rope.

Not the same post.

First was a speculative question.

2nd was a genuine ask if anyone's heard the rumour that it's already done.

Whilst many clubs admire our squad depth and quality I think you will find more than a handful of other clubs felt their squad was as good if not better at the start of the season.

its more of a self-appointed 'best in league' squad than many on here make out.

What makes you think that? Anything more than a hunch?

He's not an idiot, he'll know it's not going to plan and he'll know the expectations of the owners is far higher than being 11th going into December. We're c. 10 points worse off than we should be at this stage IMO, but I would personally be surprised if he's sacked this side of 2022. No info on my part, I djust think it would be somewhat premature to pull the trigger now ahead of the Christmas fixtures. We've got 5 league games left of 2021, I would be thinking we need 10 points as a minimum, any less and he'll be on his way surely? <10 and we'll probably find we've made no ground up on the top 6.

What?

We were being tipped and fancied all over the place. Fans of other clubs have done nothing but talk about us in those terms.

The idea there is mitigation for this season's failures is fair enough, but not this sort of sh1t.

No. It's an agent. But that's as far as I will go. Don't care if you believe me really. And fully accept they could well be wrong or have bad information. But they know I'm an ipswich fan and mentioned it to me like it was a done deal. But football is awash with these kind of rumours and everyone associated with the game likes to infer they have the inside track. I don't know if he does or not. I was just interested to hear if anyone else had heard the rumour from any football people outside the club (or in it for that matter).

But hey ho. Ask a question, get 8 downvotes. That's the way the board rolls these days.
