On what basis? Look at Messi's all round contribution, what he offers to a team is a lot more than just goals. Lewandowski is an excellent number 9 but he's not in Messi's league as a footballer. |  |

When you look at everything Messi contributes he is hands down the greatest player of his generation and top 3 of all time. I don't think it's even arguable. Only CR7 comes close to matching his goalscoring record but CR7 has morphed into Ian Rush on steroids over the years and doesn't offer much outside of goals. Messi isn't even a striker, if he scored half the number of goals he does he'd still be the greatest of his generation because of everything else he offers. The fact he scores that many is insane and puts him well over the top. | |
