Daryl Murphy scored 27 Championship goals and was 32 by the end of that season.

To discount Norwood based on age is silly considering what he offers. I get why you would based on other things (even though I'd like to see him in the squad every week when fit).

He’s an old 31. I based it on age AND fitness. Generally if a player is 30+ and injury prone, that side of it doesn’t improve. The exception was McGoldrick who rose like Lazarus for Sheffield Utd - but there were clearly other factors at play in his case. Look at Norwood’s attendance record. A 1 in 2 striker is a great thing, but a waste of time if he can’t play the games. We should unload and look for better.

Comparing him to Murphy is a bit harsh on Murphy. Norwood is basically L2 pub league. Laudable, earning good money, has done well at lower levels, well regarded at Tranny where he has a couple of really good seasons. Whoopee. Murphy was a good professional in every way and literally two divisions better. Crucially, he looked after himself. He was an ROI international too. The nearest Norwood will get to that is if Greggs sets up an international pastie eating contest.

He'll score 10 or more goals and they will finish above us in the league anyway. Norwood is a hard working player on the field, he's been a moron off of it, but none of us are saints. It's just sad when Bonne has been figured out we couldn't turn to a player like Norwood to step in to do a job, because a fit Norwood could do in this league as we have seen. Neither Piggot or Jackson can offer that either.

I always feel those who are against Norwood playing and claim he's overweight or a lard arse or has shares in Greggs etc, tend to devalue their whole argument, whatever it is.

He came back one of the fittest in pre-season and never when he's played for us in the past has he looked like his build hampers him in any way.

It's not harsh either, they're both professional footballers, both strikers. The point is neither of them are (were) too old.

Scoring goals or not, the one thing you get from Norwood is he's a fecking pain in the arse for defenders - just a right annoying handful than never gives you a moments peace. Never nice to have to defend against.

Yeah, morality questions aside, if I was a manager and my teams were throwing away two goal leads from the 75min onwards, he'd be the sought of player I'd bring on. Chance of a goal and would keep opposition players under pressure.

He might have put in a bit of an effort pre season but how long did it take for him to get injured? He has not been available to play for us enough. I thought at the start of the season keep him as an impact sub as he’s got something a little different to offer. But it’s just not worked out.

Not harsh to compare him and Murphy? I beg to differ. It’s like comparing a Grand National winner to Dobbin pulling a milk cart - every so often.

Yeah, imagine if he gets caught driving home pissed whilst injured for someone else.

Allegedly.

The injuries are obviously a huge issue, but that doesn't mean he's fat which is what I challenged you on.

And I'm not comparing them. I'm literally saying 31/32 isn't too old for a striker, that's it.

I'm not aware of many strikers who have banged in 20 goals a season at that age having only played about 40 games in the preceding 3 years. Murphy went into 2014/15 off an excellent run at the back end of the previous season where he scored about 10 goals in the second half of the year after being given a consistent run up front.
