This is exactly how I feel too. Give me Cook but with a proper right-hand man and a willingness to flex his tactical approach every time over any of the candidates I’m hearing right now.

This is pure guess work, and I could be miles off, but I think McGreal was offered to Cook as assistant manager. Or more like told he needed to take one on and McGreal was an option. Cook refused and his final chance to keep his job was lost. |  |

reading this useful thread (below).. you do realise that he is very green.. it would probably be better for him to continue his development at the less pressured environment that is MK Dons..
and critically he has a well established Technical Director in Sweeting working above and with him..whereas our new structure is VERY embryonic
So in summary I think Manning is not going to be in the rinning
