Last time I was there was about five years ago.
It is a grim, northern, industrial town built on one industry which has all but closed down. There are a few newish industrial units as you approach the town. Times have been hard in recent decades and it shows.
The first time I went I thought my eyes were fooling me; A few miles before Barrow I glanced to the side of the road and saw a couple of lions in a field. Turned out to be Dalton zoo. |  |

I suggest, to anyone who is driving, that you give yourselves plenty of time. After you leave the M6 you will still have 30-odd miles to go. Much of this is single carriageway over rugged terrain and you can easily be caught behind slow moving vehicles. | |

Well I can tell you having grown up in a small town nearby - Dalton-In-Furness.
It's a depressing working class Northern town. First thing you will notice when you approach the town is the huge Submarine shed where they build big subs for the navy.
The ground itself is not too shabby. The club has had a bit of investment over the last few years and they've spruced Holker St up a bit. Probably best to stick to the pubs near the ground (Soccer Bar, Cross Bar). A wander into the wrong pub in town could be tricky and the town centre is a sh**hole anyway.
My honest advice? Save yourself the trip, stay home and watch it on TV :) |  |

It’s still there and very busy! Currently 2 Astutes in final assembly stages plus 2 Dreadnaught Ballistic missile subs being built, it will be busy until mid 2030’s and even then it’s likely the Astute replacements will be given the green light in the next year or 2. | | | |
