Frank Yallop 18:41 - Dec 7 with 1637 views | nodge_blue | Someone on one of the Ipswich YouTube debate thingies described Frank Yallop as an Ipswich legend. I know he probably just said it lightly and didnt expect me to have a eyes roll moment about it all. But FY was at best an ok fullback. Not as good as say Tarricco, or Mings or Cresswell or Herman or Wilnis. Not a legend.

Interesting line of thought. Maybe our worst ever players are legends too then. As they left a legend of sorts. Paul Hirst. Legend.

What is the cut-off for a legend? Yes, he was a mainstay of a team that got relegated from the top flight rather convincingly and only a squad member of the team that won promotion to the Premier League but he was more than just an "OK full back".

Unremarkable times in the old FIrst Division and the brand new Premier League.

Good solid RB and a great servant of the club. But for me, not a legend. And a little known fact - he got measured up for a suit in Burton’s at the same time as I did!

Yeah this is about right. Solid, made the best of his ability but quite a way down our all time full backs list.

That is fair enough but, as I say, that also means there has not been a legend here for the past 15 years or more. Yallop has more claim to legendary status than Chambers does in my book. So either they are both in or both out. For me, they are both borderline.

And the reason for that quite simply is that those players were all wanted by bigger clubs or ones higher up the football pyramid. And went for decent fees. No one seriously ever looked at yallop.

Gosh, don't I know it! Don't know where the years go, though. Shame we couldn't rate the players on Teletext. You'd have to wait about a minute for the next player to appear, and if you missed it, that would be another half hour until he came round again! Sorry, I'll have a lie down...

I watched the play off semi final on Teletext. That 3-3 moment was my greatest Teletext moment ever.

Mings played 57 times for us. Yallop was a player who, though seldom injured, was always someone who, over many years and in higher leagues would be in and around man of the match.

Fair point, but they all left us while we were in the Champ. Yallop had 3 years in the Prem with us. Back then there was also a limit on how many non-EU players you could field I think? Which may have put some clubs off.

Mimgs played 57 times only because he was picked up by a premier League club and now plays for England. No one came in for yallop because he was just an ok full back. He was committed and tried. But ahuge down grade on burley and mills. We have had many better before and since. Not a legend.

Anyone thinking of Chambers as a legend is laughable.
