When you have trained all season in one formation do you really believe that after 1 training session and changing formation a team can be expected to perform at their best in the new formation?
If you play a 442 then two holding midfielders is not the way to play it as well.
Ps - Evans is utter garbage and Morsy isn't much better - I personally think the middle of the park is our biggest problem. In any side you get a good centre midfield pairing and they can make the rest of the team look good.

It is no good worrying about formations when you have a bunch of disparate individuals not playing as a team. They were strangers tonight. If that were the first time they had looked like strangers you could argue they were lost without Cook's organising them. However, they have frequently looked like strangers most of the season. We need a manager to organise them into a team and to get the defence and the attack to learn how to play offside! Then we can worry about formations!
