No manager odds now on 19:41 - Dec 10 with 2751 views | wkj | I think it is fairly likely to be Neil Harris at this stage, and I really don't know why people are so repulsed by him as an appointment. He's got a lot to prove and he's guided a team to promotion from this cesspool of a league. He certainly isn't a Hollywood appointment though, I'll give people that. The Americans are supposed to be ambitious. Employing an inferior manager doesn’t seem too ambitious to me. But We always seem to settle for mediocrity.

There is nothing to say Harris is an inferior manager though. There is nothing to say he's a great manager either. Big name =/= big ambition.

One thing I will look forward to should he get the job, will be all the moaning about the style of football his teams play. Will at least make the forums fun again.

Well you wont be let down on that front regardless of who we sign. As well you know, there are a fair number of people who like to be deliberately negative to wind up others, regardless of how well or poorly we're performing.

20 years with very little to be positive about has contributed to my negative attitude. [Post edited 10 Dec 2021 20:10]

We have made ourselves an unattractive prospect over the last decade, what are they supposed to do if decent candidates aren’t interested ?

Well, luckily it isn’t my money in the pension fund. If the Americans are happy to fund failure like Evans, good for them. [Post edited 10 Dec 2021 20:18]

Short of abducting Mowbray or Lampard and chaining them up in the PR basement what are they supposed to do ? Fireman’s billions or not, no money in the world will be tempting them. If we make it to the championship our options grow much wider, but at the moment we don’t look too pretty.

Don't appoint a manager at all, appoint some decent coaching staff incl specialists for GKs, defenders, mids & strikers, and let them manage as a collective. Well we've tried just about everything else ...

Then Ashton effectively becomes the manager, we don't want a businessman managing the team. [Post edited 10 Dec 2021 20:29]

For one to be an inferior manager (assuming the comparison is with Cook) they are going to have to continue the trajectory from 7th when he took over to 9th and on to 11th. So lower than 13th at the end of the season would suggest the new manager is actually inferior. I still don't get why in some people's minds Cook has somehow got us one step away from automatic promotion ... the evidence just doesn't fit. The good thing with Harris would be that he isn't the glamour big name signing. Maybe he would be the sensible level headed experience we are looking for. He would not have been my choice but if he is our new manager let's at least give him the same chance that we have done for Lambert and Cook (unless you are BlueFish that is).

I don't really understand the logic here. This seems to be based purely on meaningless betting odds and the fact he has applied? I would be amazed if he got the job.

The impression is that their main targets for the job have all declined it is doing the rounds and the perception of the support is if we do end up with another League One manager is we may as well have kept Cook. The problem is anyone other than a big name is going to be underwhelming for the majority, and assuming that we don’t make Playoffs and my feeling is we won’t then the interest and Season Ticket sales will plummet. That’s just the reality of where we are, at least if Cook had gone at the end of the season a new manager wouldn’t be lumped with failure this season and it’s part of the reason people turned so quickly on Cook. The biggest question is, are the pension fund going to be happy with a 50 or 60 million loss (purchase and club costs) within a year of buying us? I imagine alarm bells are ringing and Gamechanger are under pressure to get us promoted.

That is absolute nonsense. The bookies drew up a list to take some money on the market. People have taken that list as gospel and are somehow surprised the likes of Lampard aren't interested. I would be very surprised if we sacked Cook with zero idea of where we were going. Wait and see. We might well appoint Harris and i'll look a mug but people are purely speculating based on next to nothing.

The trouble is with sticking with Cook until the end of the season is it will see another major upheaval in the Summer and another period of adaption. Appointing a new manager now will allow for a minor tweak in January, 4-months to evolve/see where we are and then a another Summer tweak. As for this season, a new manager has a huge task to make the play-offs, but it's a free play, so to speak. Cook didn't look anything like capable of getting there. We had nothing to lose. You can call it nonsense, the truth is that the majority of supporters are expecting a good, marquee appointment and the rumour is everyone they are after has rejected them. Everyone is talking about it. Is it nonsense that supporters will walk away after a 11th place finish under a manager like Harris? The “it will be better next season “ card has been so over played now it’s meaningless to most supporters, the goodwill has evaporated. Just look at the nightmare on Tuesday night. People are absolutely sick to death with the club. Nothing nonsense about the pension fund losing £50million plus in a year and the pressures being put on Gamechanger? Are they going to be allowed to lose a further £10million a year for a mid table League One side? They will not. If they don’t get this right they won’t be here very long.

I think they will be about don't think they will walk away yes Ashton has to get it right as horrible as it is he is also replaceable the pension fund went from 13 million to 15 million a little while back so we are small change in the grand scheme of things
