The fact that people are excited about this is genuinely concerning.

Would be such a pointless appointment it’s unreal.

I wouldn't say it's a pointless appointment.

Given the names on offer, I can say that I am particularly underwhelmed by any of the realistic choices. I sincerely hope that the board can surprise us with a manager who's name has not done the rounds yet.

However, given the timing of Cook's sacking, I would suspect that promotion this season IS a priority for the board, despite what was said at the beginning of the season. I would argue it would not be a pointless appointment at all, if we are looking at the best opportunity to get ourselves up this season, all else be damned. It would only be a short term appointment, and then get the right man in at season's end.

I am no fan of Colin's, but I could certainly see the logic.

Probably a bonkers idea that will get shot down in flames but I could see the merit in NW being appointed till the end of season with the express ambition of promotion but with a prospective new manager/coach in the background assessing things with a view to taking over in the close season or earlier if promotion becomes unachievable?…..means the new guy would know plenty about the resources available so doesn’t necessarily mean whatever system is used to hopefully achieve the promotion target have to be continued with… just give me a minute to find my tin hat!

I love the way people think if NW comes in we will definately get promoted.

I mean we might. But I'm not sure it's 100% certain. Plus it would be typical he fails with us wouldn't it!

Not sure who has said that.

"if we are looking at the best opportunity to get ourselves up this season, all else be damned."

There is a difference between 'looking at the best opportunity' and 'guaranteed'. Nowt is guaranteed in this game.

I think it could be a perfect appointment if the idea is still to get promotion this season.

I think he is more likely than most to give us a chance.

It would be fine with me because, by definition, it would only be short term and we could be back to being in The Championship at the end of it.

The only manager who will get the Pack Out Portman Road bouncing.

Can you imagine how flat a PR announcement it will be if Neil Harris is paraded out to the crowd.

I'm all for a Warnock end of season bounce-athon.

Why the hell not?

Stuck ourselves in a right old rum position and if there isn't a fanfare of sorts and some good old fashioned thick-skinned manager coming in at this point of this season than what was the point of saying goodbye to a good manager as we have.

i had a look earlier the last 23 games we will probably need 2 points a game so that would be 46 points giving us a total of 74 points with the game next week which if we win would get us up to 77 points.

That would probably be enough to get us in the play offs but at this moment in time looks very, very unlikely. The new man is going to have to show automatic promotion form from the off.

Neil warnock wouldn’t take a job on as a stop gap.. he has a few more years left in him.. give him a couple of year contract, see how it goes, I would take him hands down over any of the other candidates.

Might possibly need someone with an edge or capacity to build a side full of sh*thouses, and capability to perform the darker side of the game.

There is talent in this squad, just need to be a little bit more streetwise in this league.

Imagine sacking Cook for 73 year old Warnock.

Think Ashton would have to walk out to Benny Hill music v Sunderland if that is true.

Why does it? We’d be back in the same position in 6 months and in no better position.

Woeful appointment, and one I’m quite confident, along with Harris, won’t happen.

I would have no issues if it weren’t Warnock or Harris and we went down a different route, do you have any other names that spring to mind?
