...do not want to protect you, your friends, your family or anyone remotely vulnerable from an easily preventable and unpleasant death.
Nor, do they want to protect the wide health service from increased strain that would lead to delays in everything from elective surgery to cancer treatments.

Tonight, 99 Tory MPs voted against the 'sh*t we should have already been doing' bill.

F**k this goverment, f**k anyone who voted for them and f**k anyone still making excuses for them.

Problem is now though, if new restrictions become necessary by the end of the week, and let's face it, that looks more than likely, will they be brought in for the health and well being of us all, or will the Ham Scarecrow just chicken out to avoid the aggro?

First, they will blame people for not queuing hard enough to get the chance of having an opportunity to get a booster.

Labour look more and more like a government in waiting. Wes Streeting was hugely impressive in his speech to the commons.

It’s worth noting that the 99 Tory tw@ts were joined in the “No” lobby by Jeremy Corbyn, Diane Abbott, Clive Lewis, Dawn Butler, Rebecca Long Bailey, Aspana Begum and another few no marks.

Loony right and loony left voting against protecting peoples health in what was an epidemiological Maastricht.

99 eh? That's a far bigger rebellion than the one that pretty much saw May off. Are we getting closer to him getting the boot; I've not seen any of the reporting on yesterday's readings, so don't know how this is being seen from a leadership challenge point of view?

It's obviously fecked up from a public health perspective, that goes without saying.

Streeting has really impressed me with his media and parliamentary performances. I still think that given the 153 seat and 11% deficit from 2019, it’ll be tough for Labour to win in one jump. It wouldn’t surprise me if we see a situation where Starmer makes a decent number of gains in 2023 and then Streeting becomes leader afterwards and wins in 2027/28.

Seems to me there are a number of legitimate reasons for not supporting vaccine passports as well as the loon group.

Caroline Lewis made the argument that they feed the narrative of conspiracy theorists and will harden/entrench positions of some.

Others made the argument that the proposals may be ineffective, given how easy it is to report a negative test and/or share qr codes.

The libertarian argument also has some legs, albeit by allowing people to provide proof of test that is somewhat reduced.

The ones I have an issue with are those in denial of the wave and it's dangers. MPs who cant grasp basic mathematical facts like exponential growth and choose to ignore that a smaller % of a far bigger number can still mean increased hospitalisations etc.

Oh and I think there could be some who were flexing anti BJ muscles knowing Labour votes would win. E.g, Theresa May.

So way more nuanced than those who voted no to Cv passports are all stupid or evil.

Vaccine passports are NOT in the measures though - you only need a negative test result, not a vaccine, to enter mass events etc.

Edit: In fact this is really the crux, they have voted against measures on the basis of completely misinterpreting them, possibly intentionally. What the feck is going on in this country?

Not quite. 118 according to the politico email this morning voted against May, and she had less MPs too.

Is still a large rebellion, no question.

Everything feeds the narrative of conspiracy theorists, that is the nature of the beast. Both opposition ("they fear we know the truth") and being let alone ("they can't deny our arguments") confirm the rightness of their position. All contrary evidence is "mainstream lies".

It will make very little difference to the hardness of position of those who are already flying in the face of overwhelming medical opinion/scientific evidence, or who live in an alternative universe where Covid doesn't exist other than as an excuse for an authoritarian crackdown. Waverers are just as likely to be tipped into vaccination as their lives become more disrupted. Only the fanatics will be pushed further in.

Or we get massive tactical voting/inter-party seat swapping, a hung Parliament and a coalition/cooperation to push the Conservatives out.

Is this an inevitable symptom of the logical end game of a species which has become too clever for its wisdom, become too big for its planet, and too selfish for its own good?

The descent into another rabid and misinformed faith, this time more of an irrational anti-belief, seems to me to spell the end for any remote chance we might have had of evolving our way out of our ego- and greed-driven doom. Good luck to the kids.

Two local MP's, both Tory.

Dan Poulter, law degree, qualified medical doctor, worked at James Paget A & E in summer recess 2011, supported the measures.

Tom Hunt, former head of media at the Countryside Alliance, did not support the measure.

Now then, I wonder who do I think knows more about how a highly transmissible virus spreads?

Tough one.

Apparently the Tories didn't need the Opposition votes last night to get the reading through - Johnson just confirmed that wasn't the case, so it must be true.

There's probably a lot of Tory grassroot members, (especially those who joined from UKIP) who will never vote for Patel to be leader.

Or Sunak, Javid, Zahawi, or Kwateng.

Now why would that be?
