Omicron might turn out to be a nasty cold after all.... 22:49 - Dec 15 with 4045 viewsBanksterDebtSlave

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/dec/15/londoners-with-cold-symptoms-more-

Separately, a government science adviser has suggested that panic around the oncoming Omicron wave is unjustified. Speaking in a personal capacity, Prof Robert Dingwall, a government Covid adviser from Nottingham Trent University, told the Daily Telegraph: “The Omicron situation seems to be increasingly absurd. There is obviously a lot of snobbery about South African science and medicine but their top people are as good as any you would find in a more universally developed country. They clearly don’t feel that the elite panic over here is justified, even allowing for the demographic differences in vulnerability — which are probably more than cancelled by the higher vaccination rate.

“My gut feeling is that Omicron is very much like the sort of flu pandemic we planned for — a lot of sickness absence from work in a short period, which will create difficulties for public services and economic activity, but not of such a severity as to be a big problem for the NHS and the funeral business.”

Thanks. And admitted primarily because of covid?

Yes, because that's why they're on the Government Covid website.

So...if you start off with hospitalisations running at 100 a day for Covid...then it increases by 38% the next day...and 38% of that the day after...by the end of the week you're just shy of 1000 a day admissions.

Again, not saying that's going to happen; but the whole point, where I came in and where I'll leave this for now and go to bed, is that it's too early to tell yet. We can but hope...

Yes there was nothing i had read there, it was just a hopeful thought based on nothing. It's just always bad news isn't it. But enough about ITFC.

Not all. Mutations, being pretty much random copying errors, are as likely to damage the virus or render it less harmful as to make things worse. Which is why we've seen so few variants of concern despite all the millions of cases.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

When you only appear to pop up to offer one side of that argument time and again it's pretty clear what you're pushing.

Agreed, with just enough room left to backtrack and do his Balotelli act.

Truly impaired.

Robert Dingwall is a sociologist! One of the leading South African scientists / doctors who was prominent in trying to convince people that it was mild was a signatory to the Great Barrington declaration as well.

Had to Google that so here it is to save others the effort. Are government scientific advisers appointed directly by politicians or independently do you know?

I prefer not to be quite so binary when considering the views of others. We are all right and wrong at times. Should I not consider the views of any of the declarations 890,000 signaturees?

Surely we aren't here again?

The Great Barrington Declaration was ripped to shreds well over a year ago. It was poor science put together by a few right-wing scientists and a bunch of woo practitioners. It was covered in depth on here previously which I am sure you already know.

So yes, in this case you can totally disregard the views of those signatories. Citing that there is a large number of them as evidence that something should be considered is a form of appeal to authority fallacy.

“ I prefer not to be quite so binary when considering the views of others.”

And yet you quoted only one side of the article.

That is somewhat binary, isn’t it?

I was not defending the declaration, it was clearly misguided and this morning is the first time I heard of and then read it!
What I actually said is that I would not dismiss all the signatures thoughts on all things because of it.
So YET AGAIN you are reading what you want to see and not what I say. Thank goodness you are not interpreting data for scientific purposes in your day job!!

No.
The linked article provided the necessary balance. I suppose in future all posters will be held to this standard and replicate the entire article rather than just links!

“ I suppose in future all posters will be held to this standard and replicate the entire article rather than just links!”

I was just pointing out it was you that expressed a preference for non-binary thinking.
And emphasising only once side of balanced article, is not really holding yourself up to your own standard.
