Tea on the final day on 09:00 - Dec 20 with 683 views | Ftnfwest | Was a barmy decision by smith to not enforce the follow on under lights. I reckon Cricket Australia were worried there would be hardly any cricket yesterday otherwise plus loads of refunds and forced his hand. They’ll still win but had a thunderstorm popped up this evening there could have been a few recriminations.

I think they genuinely didn't believe that England would be able to put up this kind of defensive performance, against these bowlers. But they have.

Then they would have backed themselves to roll us over again in the follow on. It was just the time of day plus a new ball as well, plus I don’t think England have scored more than 300 anywhere too often in recent years.

Australia are still haunted by a game against India when Steve Waugh made India follow on in India, they racked up 500 plus and skittled the Aussies out for around 120. Since then they barely make anyone follow on just in case! Only problem is that this might make a few in the England camp think things aren’t as bad as they are, Hazlewood and Cummings will be back and they are far far better than Richardson and Nesser.

Hubris, I think. Smith is nothing if not a very confident Captain.

Well it won’t make any difference in the end and they’ll have two greasy world class bowlers coming back for the MCG….! | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The absence of Hazlewood and Cummins has certainly blunted the Aussie attack to some degree. But the confidence from pulling a draw out of the bag (if they can), will be a significant boost for England.

That just sums up the test match for us. He'd done so much good then goes to the extremes of ridiculous.

I suppose you just get tired after such a long and tricky innings, mistakes happen.

Also the way he was batting so deep in his crease it was always a possibility.
