Makes our pathetic attempt at trying to stay in the Championship around a similiar time of the year seem even worse. We even had Bolton with us who were going months without paying players yet still finished above us
He also trousered a fair chunk of the transfer out money before the season started didn’t he? I’m sure the accounts would give the answer to my probably baseless accusation.
Regardless, that faceless man practically destroyed our club and I can’t forgive him for that.
He never trousered anything, it was that he wasn't able/prepared to inject enough to keep us competitive.
That was a sticking plaster trying to cover the long term neglect of the club on and off the pitch by Evans.
Nobody will ever convince me that man was anything but a total disaster for the club!
I don't disagree, it was too little too late and reacting to the situation he'd got the club into. Think the players brought in were probably as good as we could have got in January and in Will Keane we found a very decent striker, but unfortunately he couldn't stay fit and we couldn't turn a number of good performances into the wins which were needed.

Me either. I'd have had a lot more respect for him if he had fronted it up and admitted publicly that it had all gotten too rich for his blood.
But he pretended that everything was fine, ran down the stadium and the training ground, the ancillary staff, the stadium staff and then finally the playing squad, whilst continually telling half truths about it all to the fan base.
If all those loans cost him a fortune in January, then it's him that put himself, and us, in that position.
Don’t worry, bout a thing… every little thing gonna be alright….
Post of the Year, shut the board it’s all over nothing will top this.
In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
Thing is, Lambert was the wrong man for a relegation fight and the wrong man for 'instilling a football culture' and had been failing for the thick end of a decade. He was entirely and utterly wrong for the job.
The fact that he was allowed to get away with it by fans, local press and owner for so long is embarrassing.
I think many have said in the past that regardless of who manages the team, most of us have been guilty of turd clapping rather than getting angry. This is in part why we are now a mediocre division 3 side.
So the transfer income that he "trousered" was overall (with total costs taken into account) minus £3.5M.
They have undoubtedly done well in the circumstances but Derby had run roughshod over the rules for years so there was some inevitability to the punishment.
In regards to Evans he systematically asset stripped the club and the team left which got relegated were not of championship standard.
Three years later and only now do I see glimmers of light but a lot will depend on whether the schoolteacher can teach the likes of Edwards, Harper and Penney how to get aggressive and see a game out.

I think you need to look up the definition of asset stripping.
Evans was a dreadful owner who ran the club appallingly. He was not an asset stripper at all.
He also trousered a fair chunk of the transfer out money before the season started didn’t he? I’m sure the accounts would give the answer to my probably baseless accusation.

This has been a narrative among fans that still has nothing more than the wiff of bull to me. Championship Clubs are financial voids - I'm betting there were plenty of games of financial whack-a-mole going around this club where transfer funds fell into rather than with ME.
Not defending Evans, as he never really approached the club with a sustainable transfer policy - sans Tyrone Mings and Cresswell. So those voids were a big part of that problem I would imagine.
I am still astonished that people were actively applauding those players, that manager and actively trying to claim they were enjoying getting relegated(and, at one point, getting beaten 3-0 by a Norwich side barely out of second gear) and feeble defeats.
I can only assume that it was some kind of weird Stockholm Syndrome at that point.
Those players....
This interview below is a comedy gold !!!

Following Saturday’s last-gasp 1-0 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, the bottom-of-the-table Blues are now eight points plus goal difference from safety with 16 matches left to play.85

So they were up for the fight as he said so. Very good to know they were aware of the situation, eh? But as you've mentioned number of times he ... speaks nicely doesn't he?

I did say that my utterances were baseless (other than crudely comparing declared transfers out with in on Wiki), because I’ve not studied the accounts or how they fitted with the rest of his business.
The reality is we don’t really know how Evans ran this football club. Whatever the language people wish to use, the result was there for all to see - a club that was wrecked and lay rotting in League 1. A couple of decent seasons in 14. Whoopee. Under funded, unloved other than by its supporters.
In 14 years of his ownership, regardless of financial constraints, few clubs have fared worse, many have fared better. I’m sure some will look back and say ‘Marcus saved us’ just as some felt we should thank ‘Marcus’. I was never one of them and never will be.
His response was to the need you clearly have to emphasise the failings of the players from that squad and the perceived lack of desire.
He is not genuinely asking you about any real life therapy.
Posting repeatedly about how disgraceful you feel that squad was suggests you have a lot of anger that you might be best trying to let go. Most of the rest of us think there was a lot more to the state of the club than simply a squad that may have been poorly motivated.

Of course there was a lot more but it's mainly Lambert this, Lambert that from big number of people.
I'm a psychotherapist dealing in Mick McCarthy-related issues. I could help you get over your trauma in just a few sessions of CBT! (Chambers Bereavement Therapy).

Worth noting that the lack of good relationships and nous across the game didn’t help in that window - we spent a lot of time trying to get players that were completely unrealistic when it got to the point of £. I imagine Ashton doesn’t waste time in a similar way.
Wickham was one who I think went to Sheff Weds on loan. Palace wanted something like 40k a week and a loan fee.
Quaner was particularly expensive from what I remember (20k a week plus).

Yes, I seem to remember hearing similar re Wickham, and a very large loan fee as well.
