We really need the Bonne/Walton situations tied up ASAP don't we? 16:37 - Jan 6 with 642 viewstractorboy1978

Firstly as they are two key players and we don't want that uncertainty heading late into the window with us frantically having to find replacements.

Secondly because it potentially frees up two loan spaces if we can land them both permanently.

Likely to unsettle the players a little too. I would imagine that Bonne might be one that they might look to add an option to buy clause into the contract.

Walton is a free in the Summer, so we have the better negotiating position, question will come down to where the player wants to be I think. Hopefully McKenna has made an impression on him already.

Not sure getting 2 more loans in is a very good idea. Squad is already oversize.

From what I've heard we want 2/3 more in this window and a CB is one of them. Barry is gone and imagine they will try and shift Jackson, Nolan, Kenlock and perhaps one of Nsiala/Burgess too (even if on loan).

Jackson, Nolan and Kenlock going helps us with squad limits, but isn't much assistance in terms of general squad bloat, with all of them being so far out of the first team picture.
We'd still have 24 senior pros (26 if you count Clements and Humphreys).

Whilst I am not a fan of too many loans, I think this is a fair point. Tying down Bonne and Walton on permanent deals would be great business in and of itself, but that would mean three fewer loanees than a couple of weeks ago. Getting one or two in on loan if McK thinks they will improve the squad is not something I'd oppose, especially if a couple of Nolan/Jackson/Kenlock can be shipped out.

I think McK has dropped some hints in that regard. Not only has he discussed contacts at certain former clubs in the context of younger players, but he has referred to wanting players to improve us in the short term as well as long term. For me, that may well constitute a hint to a high class loan or two.

If Bonne goes then we should make better use of Pigott.

We also have Norwood, so the replacement would be someone as backup.

The biggest problem we face is that the mess Paul Cook has left us in means we are very likely to be an L1 club next season, and those two players may well look higher up the league.
