Ahmaud Arbery - sentence on 20:50 - Jan 7 with 608 views | jeera | Finally seeing justice over there for race hate crimes. How long will it take for the message to sink in though? This is still decades, (if not hundreds of years), behind the times and there's a lot of catching up to still be done.

Would have liked the OP if it wasn't for the expression of surprise at the end. It should not surprise us that justice is done. Let's hope the message sinks in very quickly. I wonder when Dalian Atkinson's killer's girlfriend's retrial will be. That has a been a long time now.

Coincidentally Sidney Poitier passed on earlier. The film in which he starred, In the Heat of the Night, as a stark reminder of the accepted racism and segregation that existed in parts of the US. Sadly, little seems to have changed, when looking at this case. The sentences, yes - the attitudes of many in parts of the US, no.

Hadn't realised that. Great actor and great film. That and To Kill a Mockingbird were fantastic and things everyone should watch/read them.

err, the surprise was at the length of the sentence - no parole never mind that a guilty verdict was handed down, which given the area could well have gone the other way and it will take far more than these type of sentences (as welcome as they are) to change ingrained racism though it might make some think twice about the indiscriminate use of guns to express those thoughts
