Morsy and Evans 17:35 - Jan 8 with 287 viewstractordownsouth

It was mentioned on here last week but I'm surprised Cook never played Morsy further forwards and Evans deeper like McKenna has done. Presumably they must have done well at Wigan playing in the same positions they were in at the start of this season, but we look so much better with how they're set up now. Playing deeper gives Evans more room to play the long passes he's good at and Morsy can drive at defences more easily. Having our ball winning midfielder higher up the pitch also helps us to keep up the pressure and break up the play deep in the opposition half. It was in a different formation, but that was part of why we did well at the start of last year, Downes winning the ball further forward meant Dozzell could play the deep-lying playmaker role.

Very good performance today, the first half has to be up there with the second halves of Portsmouth, Doncaster and Wycombe from earlier in the season. It's still a tough ask but if we can cut the gap to the play offs down to 5 points by the end of January I think we'll be in with a shout.

Poll: Preferred Lambert replacement?
