Pressing 18:01 - Jan 8 with 630 viewsblueberry

Obviously Gillingham were dire but, on the few occasions we needed it, our press was so much more effective today. We pressured them and either won it back high up the pitch or forced a hopeful ball towards Oliver, totally isolated up top against a back three.

Bonne has always chased defenders down, but there has usually been an easy out ball. Playing Morsy further forward has really helped, but curious if an effective press is something that can be coached into a team of pros in a matter of weeks? Seems like in both of KM's games so far we’re playing further up the pitch and taking pressure off the defence.

If we can be more efficient off the ball, we have more than enough on the ball to get something out of this season. COYB!

Having Morsy further up and Evans sitting suits their strengths much better

Having Norwood alongside Bonne makes a big difference to this too.

Other notable differences for me were the accuracy and pace of our passing, the availability of players to receive the ball and the tendency that every backwards pass was followed by a forwards one and there were few square ones aside from switching play. The range of short and longer passing and that virtually all passes were to feet were noticeable as well. Also the fluidity of positions where players had the freedom to move into different areas of the pitch with others covering.

Simple stuff like passing snd moving intelligently and not just watching how good your last pass was

Creating our own space and not waiting for it to appear

Just overall more intelligent , less demanding and more effective

Efficient I think is the word

Yep, that's another benefit of playing two up front that I'd overlooked. Very happy with the way things are shaping up so far.
