Has anyone had an odder Ipswich Town career than Janoi Donacien? 15:09 - Jan 9 with 2878 viewsGeoffSentence

Brought in on loan ny a new manager with a view to signing permanently when his work permit is renewed.

By the time it is renewed there is a new manager n charge, who has worked with him before, didn't seem to like him and doesn't play him.

Gets loaned back to the club we brought him from.

Starts the next season as first choice RB, but is replaced after only 3 games and thereafter plays only a bit part as cover for his injured replacement.

Apart from warming the bench a couple of times next season he has no involvement before going out on loan again.

Starts on the bench again the following season, but gets into the team quickly after injuries to first Toto then KVY, after which he becomes an absolute revelation, one of the best and most consistent players of the season so far.

Part way through his first season here I thought it would be best for all concerned if his work permit wasn't renewed.

Frankly it is a miracle he didn't leave the club long ago and even more so that he has been so good this season

How much character does that show, to come so good after such a stop start career here.

Seems to be a great pro with a good attitude. Pleased to see it going well for him.

My main issue with him is the Jack Grealish look really doesnt work for him!!

There are plenty of candidates for various reasons:

Sergei Baltacha, Amir Karic, Matteo Sereni, Finidi George, Ulrich Le Pen, Michael Chopra, Tom Adeyemi, Mark Fish, Myles Kenlock, James Norwood.

None would be the same as Donacian but plenty that have been very up and down, through a few managers, odd experiences, etc.

Most Banter Era player ever.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Without a shadow of a doubt.

His game seems ideally suited to being a wide defender in a back three, long may his good form continue.

With the number of people who had written him off almost from the start, he’s an object lesson in how silly it is to “call it” in football.

Ultimately football isn’t a game of opinions, it’s a game where margins are pretty much everything.

Paul Mason in 1997 was weird, absolutely hit his stride, scoring for fun and frankly looked a class above, gets injured, vanishes for two seasons, crops up in the reserves, scores in his comeback, and is never seen again!

I find it odd that Frank Nouble played over fifty times for Ipswich.

Didn't we only take up the option to buy him when Lambert came in, with a view to getting a fee?

The poor bloke didn't even make the weakened team to play against Accrington in the FA Cup.

Mason was a good player, but he was regularly injured & only in one season - 1996-97 - did he play in more than about half of Town's games.

His whole career here and after he had left is very odd. Virtually no one would have predicted it. However, many also looked at his record at Rotherham and thought he might have been worth giving a second chance to.

Jordan Rhodes and Dean Bowditch (maybe even Billy Clarke too) would be others even given too little opportunity or conversely too many to prove themselves.

He scored 15 goals in 1996/97 played 48 games! He then played 7 across the next two seasons before vanishing for good.

What about Taricco? Bought and then totally forgot about for a bit while we all dazzled by the silky skills of Adrian Paz. Given his chance and was a legend.

Taricco played one game in that disastrous Town season - a 0-3 home defeat to 2nd division Bolton. He was seen as a "makeweight" in the Paz deal but what a player he turned out to be.

I just wish we had Burley in the summer rather than Lyall coming back. We may not have stayed up but we wouldn't have sunk like a stone. Tarrico, Mogga, and Mathie getting signed and featuring 8 months earlier, the likes of Vaughan, Wright and Scowie coming in, Stockwell getting played more regularly, we would have been much better placed. Lyall was past it in 94', should have gone at the end of 93'.
